me and a buddy of mine just took my little girls' elmo kite i got for her out for a spin tonight at about midnight.... we then had the wild idea of
putting some LEDs on the bridle, and seeing what it would look like.
needless to say, it looked pretty damn cool. i had a spool that was 300 yards of some 50lb test string, and we used that as the flying line.
there was a truck that passed by while we were flyin, and they stopped at the stopsign for about 3 minutes or so watching us... lolkitepool - 26-3-2009 at 06:46 PM

Suspend one of those blinking, color-changing micro LED/keychain lights in one of those old Shanti Cube kites (or the 3 sided Prism Triads).
These kites will spaz around a lot on their own and put on quite a show (use a tail in heavier winds).
Send a kite train of these up one breezy night (and keep an eye out for another set of lights - Red and blue ones! :rolleyes.
Watch for mine at Wildwood and Ocean City soon!

Another cool item - the tiny Thil "battery replacement" LED fishing bobber lites. They are the size and weight of a matchstick and come in red,
yellow and green. They are very bright, last for 20 hours, and you could possibly tape them along your lines, bridles, or even inside your cell

I use "Glow Sticks" The kind you snap to activate. They come in thin strips, circles and many other shapes. Usually find them at my Dollar Store. Drop
them in a cell and you are good to go.Drewculous - 2-5-2012 at 10:07 AM
i got the cops called on me once for that
nothing serious just a ufo report! ROFLMFAO!!!
took some cheapie glo-sticks from wally world and hooked 'em to the bridals of my twister and it was really cool looking! Kamikuza has a sweet pic of
an arc with some LEDs in it.... I think it may be my synergy i bought from him actually :shocked2:
night flying ftw!NeilDeans7 - 2-5-2012 at 11:17 AM
In the late nineties I started using "Glo Wire" (electroluminescent wire) for all kinds of fun applications. EL Wire is light weight and easy to use.
I've used it on my kites, kite buggy, Bagpipes, RC Aircraft, my helmet and lately my son's baby stroller.
Now, even REI carries an easy version called"bike glow wire" which instead of using rechargeable LiPo batteries it uses two AA Batteries. You can use
AA lithium batteries for the "bike glow wire" since they are lighter.
EL wire is pretty cool. You can buy the wire, controller and battery pack pre made or make a set yourself. Home made sets can be really light weight
using a rechargeable LiPo battery. However, then you will need a LiPo charger that you can buy at any RC Hobby Store.
I like to zip tie them to my Rev Super Blast (2-4) onto the spars, write my name on the face of a Rokaku or run some lines all the way down the kite
line of parafoil or other lifter
Just Google Glo Wire or EL Wire...cool stuff eh?FranklynFa - 6-5-2012 at 07:21 PM
