Brilliant News and great to hear, I have just been speaking to Ruudjie and the guys at the NABX.....they are having a blast with many going over 100kmh

and it will be 35-45mph wind tomorrow....

arkay - 3-4-2009 at 12:29 AM

Wow, congrats!!! :o

acampbell - 3-4-2009 at 08:37 AM

not only the world record, but many new personal bests are being made here. Many regulars are joining the 50 mph club and many are topping 100 kph for the first time. First 104, then 106, 109 and finally 117.

Winds were routinely 20 mph + with gusts measured over 40. As a bonus, we are all getting free dermabrasions and teeth whitening with the flying grit.

There wil be many spectacular pics posted at the end of the week, I'm sure.

Today will be faster, I bet.

BeamerBob - 3-4-2009 at 08:51 AM

How fast have you been so far Angus?

acampbell - 3-4-2009 at 09:09 AM

Will post later on another thread. Going to the lakebed now to see if I can do something before the winds are supposed to hit 50. If not then I will watch the Dutch burn through another pile of tires

DAKITEZ - 3-4-2009 at 02:06 PM

Someone needs to keep track of how many tires he burns up over the week  I bet that will be some kind of record too!

kiteon - 3-4-2009 at 04:47 PM

wow way to go!!!!!

acampbell - 3-4-2009 at 06:56 PM

Arjen has topped this record but I will let the details come through official channels. Tease, tease.

centex_buggier - 3-4-2009 at 10:18 PM

Crazy winds today. We started to clear off the lakebed with a buggy train because of the rain. After it stopped, we turned around and right at that time a semi got blown over on I15.
Got back to camp expecting to find everyone gone, but Arjen was out again with the Spirit pulling off crazy speeds. After a killer run, his kite came down and he was way off on the horizon. i drove Ozzy down to check on him and he was fine, but had just topped the record. After that he did several more runs and notched it up again! Best buggying I have ever seen.

popeyethewelder - 4-4-2009 at 12:40 AM

OMG....I have just heard the speed.....that is definitely the one to beat....

jantie - 4-4-2009 at 09:42 AM

and now the record is set to 77+mph

Go Arjen Go, the flying dutchman rulezz..!!!

revpaul - 4-4-2009 at 11:20 AM

WOW:karate:congrats Arjen.
he's using a Libre Spirit for all these runs, right?. another site (admittedly unsure of actual facts) stated Arjen is using PL's new Vapor at NABX. just curious if Arjen has done some runs with the PL and what he thinks. do not want to conclusions just because records are being set with a Spirit.
also, who else (at NABX) is competing for top speed record and what are they getting (and using)
curious, is Luk Stanek at NABX doing some speed runs?
If the Europeans take the record home, and are having a super good time, perhaps more of them and their vendors will come back next year, and so on. Should make NABX an even better venue in the future.
Paul

jantie - 4-4-2009 at 12:11 PM

hey

i'm not sure if the record speed run is set with the Spirit or the PL..
the complete story will surely be posted here when he gets back home.

hope to post next year from NABX.

acampbell - 4-4-2009 at 01:55 PM

Record was set with Spirit 3.3 and Apex Xtreme bug. Arjen did 116 kph with PL Reactor II 2.2 in prior runs. The Vapor has done well too but I do not know top speed.

AJ did 67+ mph in Apex and 6m Phantom.

revpaul - 4-4-2009 at 04:42 PM

great stufff.
thanx to all you guys for keeping us informed. looking forward to seeing fab footage/pics.
Paul

popeyethewelder - 5-4-2009 at 08:02 AM

yep and lets have the full list of pbs, and update this list

http://pic7.piczo.com/Popeyethewelder/?g=44407598&cr=7

markite - 5-4-2009 at 11:01 AM

He did a run of 116 with the Reactor 2.2 in an Xxtreme Apex buggy then after tuning the bridle on the Reactor and going to do another run the winds dropped off so he switched to the 3.3 Spirit. The winds kicked in again as he did a run of 121 kmh then after that record setting run he turned around and did another run of 124 kmh.
Keep in mind that just before this a bunch of us did a little buggy race holding bags, folding chairs and padded seats to move the buggies. A couple guys had 1.5m kites on very short lines and Arjen was on a 3.3 totally lit.
A short time after his runs the winds eased just a bit more and there were 4 of us out riding fully powered on lower aspect 2 meter kites and 6m Phantoms. Using that 3.3 in the wind he was running in was incredible to see.
The Vapor had sustained some damage scuffing the dry lake the days before so they were out of commission for that high wind day. The larger ones were fine but way too big to use.

Ozzy - 6-4-2009 at 06:12 AM

markite - 6-4-2009 at 03:06 PM

Ozzy was really hungry just before leaving - and nobody has been able to find Richard since then .... hmmmm......

USA_Eli_A - 6-4-2009 at 03:52 PM

IT WAS A VERY IMPRESSIVE SITE. NEXT YEAR WE NEED TO TRIPLE UP ON GEAR, mostly line sets and tires for me!

Very nice to have such wonderful riders from abroad.

I hop you can return some day so that we can enjoy your company again!!!

Hey Dakites, I threw away about 10 wasted tires on sunday. That is the record I think. Anyone say "Re-Tred"

popeyethewelder - 7-4-2009 at 10:49 AM

Well, I am very pleased to confirm, the World No1 and No3 speeds have now been verified and pictures of Arjen & Jeroen have been added with their GPS's
