As I'm kinda new to this frozen lake thing, I'm just wondering what the conditions are like at South Cooking Lake. I haven't been able to make it out
there in a while and the forecast for Sunday looks promising and I'm dying to go out for one last rip on the snow So, figure it's still safe to go
out?

I asked the same question on Pipeline's forum. If I get word back I'll let you know. Barring all else, if Sunday's winds hit in the afternoon I might
take a drive out there.
I know this much, I gave up on the season about a month too early last winter - I won't do the same this year.

Ice is still good down here in Southern Alberta. Some shore rot, but it has been much warmer down here that up in the north. The plate of ice was
80cm thick two weeks ago. When the temperatures rise I use a cordless drill with a very long spade bit to check to see how much of the surface has
rotted. It will go down easy till you hit the hard ice of the plate. The quality of the ice has more to do than the thickness this time of year. It
has not been nearly as warm up there.
