opinions on the GI Prodigy board please

neilsolaris - 7-4-2009 at 06:30 AM

Hi,

I recently bought a GI AK 103 board. However, the metal plate broke after about an hour of use, due to a defect.

After speaking to the supplier, he said (rather than replace the part or the board), he can send me a GI Prodigy board instead. From what I understand I think I can keep my AK 103 too.

Does this sound like a good deal? Does anyone know anything about the Prodigy board? Is it a good board? Is it better than the AK 103? I found a link to a Prodigy board which I presume is the same one.

Many thanks for your help.

The prodigy is going to be shorter and have a more narrow stance. I believe it is 91 or 89cm compared to your 103cm board.

I'm pretty sure the prodigy has a composite deck vs the maple deck on the AK.

If you like the stance and feel, I'd say its a good trade, but I've never been on a prodigy (I have been on an AK)

powerzone rides the prodigy so he might be able to give you a good review

Yes, the Prodigy has a composite deck which is a lot less weight than the AK, major upgrade for sure. I would take them up on the deal right away, especially if you can keep your AK board and gear as well.

I got the progidy
it is superb,
it is super small and very nimble
Much lighter than the Flite Lite 100
and of a dis-similar wood construction
like the patrol
the board is so short that you will have to try real hard to break it

Kitepool - are you riding it with skate or bionic trucks?

old Bionic Trux with dark Blue squares

I really want to try the Sk8 trux,...
so far allmy other skate trucks have been on
kite- skate-long-boards.
Seismic trucks,
Exkate,...
Tracker (widest possible)
TRACKER TRUCKS TRACK PRETTY GoooooOOOD!
something else?

prodigy is wood with fiber glass built into the deck below your feet. the 103 is more flexible with the same idea regarding fiberglass.

Just let them warrenty your board, make sure you get bionic trucks. The prodigy is short, so your stance will be tight, usually an issue for tall guys. There are mods for the AK 103 I think make the product much better, I've done them to all my board even the conflict.

I just scored the New CrossAir Hubs and future T3 cubes. I saw the terraintula wheels, pretty solidous!

In the vid, he is not riding a prodigy, is he? The deck shape seems all wrong for any of the GI boards and the bindings seemed to be MBS.

Are you posting the vid just to show off the hubs or did GI totally reshape their decks for 2009 and not update the website yet?

I posted the vid to show off the hub. They are constructed well and hold up under the riders style. The board isn't the prodigy, but a MBS deck, trucks and bindings.

I will take a pic of my board and the mods will be obvious, I like them, higher center of gravity, shorter wheel base, FOR ME, make the board turn sharper and makes manual stalls easy, give it a little more nose and tail for grabs.
