From the last meet up thread, Jim posted a calendar item for a meet up this weekend. Thought I'd get out the early reminder
Description: Time to wash out that playa dust.
Date: Saturday, April 18, 2009jellis - 12-4-2009 at 08:46 AM
Hey wait for me! If I leave Las Vegas today I should be there in time. Wait a minute, it is still raining in the Northwest and I am still getting a
tan in dessert country.sunset-Jim - 12-4-2009 at 08:55 AM

You mean that liquid sunshine? Ya, we do have it today. But let me tell ya about yesterday:wee::wee::wee: Let's just say it was a good day,
buggies, blokarts and kiteboarders were all having a good time. Even managed to bust another line set (no Ricky, not that one.. lol)
I did have something come up for Saturday so I won't be available, but I'll be out Sunday.arkay - 14-4-2009 at 04:18 PM
Anyone planning to head out... Saturday or Sunday? I'm flexible, I just want wind.
I don't have a reasonable wind forecast yet but... both days are looking nice
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 58.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 63.csa_deadon - 14-4-2009 at 06:23 PM
I'm starting to think you guys are avoiding me!! That or you talk with my boss
before deciding what weekends
to get together. Gotta work Fri, Sat Sun & Mon. Try to fun!sunset-Jim - 14-4-2009 at 07:10 PM
Sorry bout that, it's really NOT on purpose... and that's MY story and I'm stickin too it...:wink2:
Take a look on the NAPKRA site for the days scheduled for May-SOBB
Hope to see ya on the next one.Loop - 15-4-2009 at 11:55 AM
Got some chores Sat but will be out after that. Sunday as well, what time?
Got a pretty good session in last night and am feeling pretty comfortable in the seat. Little chilly tho, excited for some warmer temps this weekend.archkiter - 15-4-2009 at 11:58 AM
I plan on coming out - not sure if it will be Saturday, Sunday, or both.csa_deadon - 16-4-2009 at 08:41 PM
Well, I looks like I may be able to make it up this weekend after all. But, if I do it will be as a spectator.
Decided to drive up to Sunset Beach today before the rains were suppose to hit, and get some more seat time in.
The winds down here in Newport have been chaotic to say the least, and to many horses on the beach made the decision a easy one.
Hit the beach around 12:00 noon. Broke out my bread and butter 3.6m foil, buggy, helmet, and body armor (wife made me buy it!), and started to crave
up the beach. Around 2:00 I was having so much fun that I ignored the winds picking up. Put myself in to a hard right turn, and leaned hard into it.
The kite started to slow up, so I dipped down into the window bringing the kite parallel with the beach at 15 feet. Power picked up, I leaned harder
in to the turn. That's when it got bad. Was leaning in to the left side rail hard when a gust hit the kite right in the middle of the power zone.
Long story short, Left side ribs #8, and #9 Snapped! You could hear me moan clear to Seaside.
Don't know who the people were, but a very nice man and his wife helped load the buggy on to my truck, as I was trying to breath. Stupid ICU nurse
that I am, "It'll feel better by the time I get home!" Nope! worse!
So if I feel up to it I may swing by and say hi! Minus the kite and buggy of coarse.
Doc says 4-6 weeks before I should try again.
Hope the wind gods accept this sacrifice!sunset-Jim - 16-4-2009 at 09:53 PM
Damn dude, sorry to hear that. Maybe you and Mike can compare broken ribs. :wow: It kept him from being able to get out to NABX this year. The sad
part too is that his gear made it out there without him.csa_deadon - 16-4-2009 at 10:08 PM
We'll see how I feel this weekend. Was a job just trying to drive that twisted Hwy 101 back to Newport.ripsessionkites - 17-4-2009 at 01:22 AM

:tumble:arkay - 17-4-2009 at 08:02 AM
OUCH! Sorry to hear that, the wind has been pretty hard all week. Hope you get well soon!
Wind today is great... hopefully it'll hold... NOAA's weather report for the weekend is short and lame though. Kitesurf seems to agree.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. North northeast wind between 7 and 11 mph.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph.
Maybe I do need a large hi ratio kite... :Ange09:jellis - 17-4-2009 at 08:33 PM
:tumble: why yes you do need a Spirit or a JoJo RM+arkay - 18-4-2009 at 11:19 AM
I agree, can't wait to get the stock list
Wind today, so far, is funky low wind gusty. Wind finally shifted from E to W but it's only 2/5/10. Report looks like may pick up a little around
2pm. Tomorrow still looks calm.Loop - 18-4-2009 at 01:11 PM
Hey arkay, could you tell me where you get your forecast? I was down there about an hour ago and it was quite calm. Was thinkin about driving back
down in an hour or so at low tide just to see. But it looks pretty light here.Loop - 18-4-2009 at 02:08 PM
Yep, I need to find where your forecast is because it is apparently right. Its blowin from the north, but pretty strong anyway. Im gonna go give it a
go.arkay - 18-4-2009 at 02:17 PM
I'm in manzanita, but the wind is generally comparable albeit it's usually a bit windier down here. My kite disease makes me pop out and measure the
wind every once in a while I haven't put a wind meter on the house yet since I
have a fair number of trees. Anyway conditions and forecasts... i usually look at noaa, kitesurf, wu, at my barometer, and then outside
It's 6/9/11 here now... that's probably just about as good as it's going to get today.
Just saw your other post... the wind trend is up pretty sharp thought, but the clouds are doing much. Hey if it just picked up there then maybe It'll
make it's way down here in 30 minutes Doesn't look like it'll blow this way but
here's hoping. I really want to get my 12m lei in the air to test it out and 9 isn't going to cut it.
I think I'm going to head down the street and see if my rage 3.6 will fly at all, haven't flown it yet. Want to at least get it in the air.
Unfortunately it looks like barely enough wind to keep my 7m in the air. I need to add a more efficient kite to my quiver, when Jon gets back.arkay - 18-4-2009 at 07:05 PM
Wind ended up hitting 8/10/13 for an hour then died. Was able to fly my 7m blaze and let another kiter borrow my 7m bullet. gusted to 12/15/18 for
about 20 minutes then the wind died... Was a fun hour and a half or so, but that was the entire day for me.
Outlook tomorrow is calm and warm; maybe a corona day csa_deadon - 18-4-2009 at 07:30 PM
6-pack of corona and a percocet! :frog:Loop - 18-4-2009 at 07:43 PM
I had a pretty awesome day. Tried my 10 out for a few but not enough, so I put up the 13. Had a pretty good time, lots of car traffic tho which kind
of sucks when the wind has so much north in and Im constantly tackin acrossed the "highway". It did start to turn a bit more west before I finally
wore down. But all in all a fun day. Thanks a ton for those weather links. Its nice to have more options then just noaa. I really like that sunset
beach link too.
