Event: Wildwood Buggy Bash, Spring

leebrianh - 15-4-2009 at 12:36 PM

NJ Buggy Club members are gathering again for Spring Buggy Bash at Wildwood, NJ.

When: May 8th (Friday), 9th, 10th
Where: Wildwood, NJ
Who: anybody interested in any kite activities

Registration is NOT required. Just show up and have fun with us. For those who want to stay over night, check out this camping site, where most of us will stay. When you make a reservation, mention "buggy bash" so they can assign sites close to each other.

Exact location will be announced later here, depending on wind condition.

Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you all.

PS This is last year Fall Buggy Bash. Enjoy it :)

video

Edit 1: I talked to the camping site and they said early reservation helps them to allocate tent sites close together so early reservation is recommended. Two small dogs or one medium/large dog is allowed. One tent site allows 2 adults + 2 children + 1 car and additional number costs additional $

Edit 2: We've decided our event location:

map

Park either on E 2nd Ave or JFK Blvd. When you get there, you should be able to see a shade, kites and some people. Just come up and say hello.

Edit 3: Tide info:

2009-05-08 1:38 PM EDT 0.08 feet Low Tide
2009-05-09 2:20 PM EDT 0.20 feet Low Tide
2009-05-10 2:59 PM EDT 0.35 feet Low Tide

shehatesmyhobbies - 16-4-2009 at 07:56 AM

Rdavis and myself are trying to plan it out to be there. Gonna try to get there Saturday afternoon!Hope to see you there. Would be great to meet you. Rich

ragden - 16-4-2009 at 08:03 AM

I'm trying to get Friday off from work so I can be there the whole weekend. Wife isnt sure she wants to come yet. Need to have a "discussion" on this topic when I get home from work... :(

lad - 16-4-2009 at 08:47 AM

I will like to be there myself (it's a whole lot closer than Jekyll Island!). 'Course, I'll have to be right back up there during the following Wildwood Kite Fest!.

bobalooie57 - 18-4-2009 at 04:53 AM

Is this event just for NJ buggy club members? Or can anyone show up? B57
edit: did anyone notice that the campground advertises "no alcohol"?

lad - 18-4-2009 at 05:08 AM

The first thread says:
"Who: anybody interested in any kite activities"

So, I guess us out-of-staters are welcome too.

leebrianh - 18-4-2009 at 06:19 AM

Anybody is welcome

lad - 20-4-2009 at 11:23 AM

In the JIBE thread, it was mentioned that Wildwood doesn't recognize buggyers as "real people." Are they just referring to the Wildwood Festival events in a few weeks - not to the legal status of buggys on the Wildwood beach?

leebrianh - 20-4-2009 at 11:38 AM

Ye, I saw that post and I am not sure what he/she meant by that comment.

I've been buggying at Wildwood for a few years now and did not have any problem with local law enforcement. They petrol the beach regularly even during off season and they often wave back at us while we buggy, blokart or landboard on the beach.

Of course, when season starts, we give the beach back to beach-goers.

bobalooie57 - 21-4-2009 at 05:05 AM

I just registered with the Beachcomber Camping Resort for Thurs, 5/7 - Sun, 5-10. I mentioned the buggy bash, and the gent. I spoke with hadn't heard of the event being scheduled, nor had he any registrants yet. Hopefully I was just the first to register, as I am really looking forward to meeting up with some experienced landboarders for what should be a great learning experience, as well as loads of fun! Can't wait to meet everyone! B57.

leebrianh - 21-4-2009 at 05:17 AM

I booked my tent site on April 16th, the day I talked to someone at camping resort and some NJBuggyClub members I know booked already as well. He (can't remember his name) said he would make sure all the employees aware of "Buggy Bash" so whoever answers the phone can allocate camp sites accordingly. I guess words got lost somewhere :puzzled:

Should be alright though. I am sure we will manage to hang out at night

ragden - 21-4-2009 at 09:23 AM

I've already registered as well. The guy I spoke with knew what was going on. Odd that you got someone who did not. I'll be there Thursday night, though I am not sure what time I will be getting in. Might be late. Hopefully not, but it all depends on traffic. I'll shoot you a u2u with my phone number so we can hook up when all get out there.. :)

rdavis - 22-4-2009 at 08:53 AM

Just made my reservation, but I don't think the guy I spoke with knew anything about the buggy bash.

shehatesmyhobbies - 26-4-2009 at 07:41 PM

I just can't wait to meet the rest of you! I'm coming over with rdavis. It is going to be great to meet others interested in our sport! see you guys soon Rich

lad - 26-4-2009 at 08:06 PM

Fri and/or Sat will prob look good for me - as a noob, I will prob. have to be isolated from the main action!

ragden - 27-4-2009 at 06:32 AM

We are less than two weeks away from the fun and games.
I cannot wait to get down there and hang out for the weekend.
Lad, just because you are a n00b does not mean that you will be isolated. All the regular nj buggy members are excellent teachers, and have lots of extra gear to assist in making your next learning session a huge jump in capabilities and technicial skills.

bobalooie57 - 27-4-2009 at 10:24 AM

I too am stoked, and also a noob that wants to be in the thick of it to learn as much as possible! tikayak laoned me his buggy! I had my first buggy ride at the school soccer field, using the NPW5 for power, I rode up and down the field til the wind dropped off! ok, coming back up wasn't too easy, but I'll get it! tikayak wanted to come but will be in to his season, but told me to learn as much as possible, and come back and teach him! Imagine me teaching him. Just about everything I know I've learned from him. Can't wait!! Bob

leebrianh - 1-5-2009 at 06:06 AM

Edit 2, event location has been added to original post.

ragden - 1-5-2009 at 06:52 AM

If anyone is coming up Thursday night (07 May 09), and you do not already have my number, please feel free to send me a U2U and I will send you my contact information. Cant wait to see everyone on the beach. :)

rdavis - 1-5-2009 at 06:56 AM

I'll be taking the Cape May/Lewis Ferry over Friday afternoon. Who's going to be there on Friday and what time you guys planning on hitting the beach?

leebrianh - 1-5-2009 at 07:15 AM

ragden and some folks not in this forum will be there Friday all day.

I am going to be at the beach Saturday morning, say 9 ish. See you there.

ragden - 1-5-2009 at 07:29 AM

As long as there is beach and wind, I will be there. :D

rdavis - 1-5-2009 at 07:37 AM

Does anybody know if it's metered parking? The meters at our beaches here in Delaware aren't up yet, didn't know if Wildwood was the same, since i've never been there before. Just want to make sure I have plenty of change if that's the case.

bobalooie57 - 1-5-2009 at 07:46 AM

Anyone got tide info? Being a landlubber I'll be darned if I can read the NOAA tables!Bob

leebrianh - 1-5-2009 at 07:57 AM

Edit 3, tide info is added.

About parking, I don't think meter runs yet. Talk to any club members before you feed the meter. If I find anything, I will update it here as well.

Tibi - 1-5-2009 at 11:34 AM

I'll be there Sunday morning. The meters will become effective on May 15th, so we'll have free parking for the event.

Everyone hanging til Sunday?

lad - 5-5-2009 at 07:30 AM

So far, Wildwood's weekend weather forecasts are not so encouraging

But Sunday is still looking OK - will most of you still be out that day before departing?

I'm only looking at a day trip, and Sun. looks it- so far.

leebrianh - 5-5-2009 at 08:01 AM

I personally will be there Sat/Sun, rain or shine. I am sure some members will do the same for Friday.

Hope weather changes to better as we come close to weekend.

Same here for the son and I... rain or shine. I just have to remount the bigfoot on the rim and it's a go!

We usually start heading home around 3:00 but then again it's a 5 hour drive for us.

bobalooie57 - 5-5-2009 at 09:37 AM

Man, I've been going over my lists, etc., getting ready for this and haven't even paid attention to the weather forecasts. I'll be there no matter! Probably arrive Thurs. evening. Bob

ragden - 5-5-2009 at 09:40 AM

The current idea is that if the weather is "iffy" we are still going to be there. Light rain, cloud cover, these are the kinds of things that keep the normal beachgoer from showing up. This means more beach for us to play in. Unless it starts to heavily pour, or lightning, we will be there playing in the wind and sand.

I'm still planning on heading out thursday myself. See ya there. :D

bugymangp - 5-5-2009 at 10:00 AM

sounds like the weather we used have when i ran the buggy bash years ago.
i e mailed brian that i won`t be able to make it this time.
my town is having a kite day this saturday in the same park
i got kicked out with my buggy years ago. so this would be a great time
to talk to my mayor and do a buggy and blokart demo. maybe he will let me
back in the park with my buggy and blokart.
hope the weather holds for you guys and i`m sure you guys will take lots of pictures
and videos.

shehatesmyhobbies - 5-5-2009 at 01:08 PM

Three more days and counting, I won't be there till late friday night.Me and my son have a baseball game on friday, as soon as its over I am on my way. Just found out today that we now have a game saturday round 5pm I guess I will have to leave around 130 or 2. It will be fun for as long as I am there either way! Rich

joecat - 5-5-2009 at 06:30 PM

Only three days away,,, I think the weather will cooperate. As said before bad predictions keep the regular beach goers away leaving more room for us. Here is a link to my lastest video.... Brian and I hit the beach in pretty high winds,,, he got some major air, for someone in our group anyway.......

lad - 5-5-2009 at 07:23 PM

Glad I got my new Lynne mud flap guard installed nonetheless! :tumble:

shehatesmyhobbies - 6-5-2009 at 04:19 PM

Awesome video!!!!! Can't wait to get there. I have never been to Wildwood, I'm going crazy!

bobalooie57 - 7-5-2009 at 03:56 AM

6:55am and I'm all packed up, headin' for Wildwood and some coastal freshies! See youse guys (my best NJ accent!) tonight! B57

ragden - 7-5-2009 at 04:48 AM

I'll be leaving between 2 and 3pm today. Hope to get to the campground before complete nightfall.

leebrianh - 7-5-2009 at 04:54 AM

I will be joining you guys Saturday morning. Leave some fun for us :)

ragden - 7-5-2009 at 04:58 AM

From wind predictions I am seeing, looks like North Beach will be the place to ride tomorrow. For those at the campground tonight, come and find me and i'll lead you to the holy land. :D

If you do not already have my cell number, please send me a u2u or e-mail and I will provide that information. Once I am checked in, I will provide the campsite number. Looking forward to another great weekend. :)

rdavis - 7-5-2009 at 05:30 AM

I'm taking either the 9:15 or 11:15am ferry over, so I should be there sometime in the afternoon on Friday. Is anyone gonna be at or getting into the campground in the afternoon? I can probably manage it by myself, but I could certainly use a hand putting up my tent. It's really a two person job, but my buddy who's staying with me isn't going to be there until after nightfall, so i'll be setting up camp by myself.

ragden - 7-5-2009 at 05:37 AM

Give me a call when you get there and I will see if we can get someone over to assist you. Depending on your arrive time, we may still be riding.
You could come straight down to the beach and join us, and when we finish up for the day, we could all head back and take care of that. Your call. :)

rdavis - 7-5-2009 at 05:44 AM

Thanks ragden. I've got your number so i'll be giving you a call and we can figure something out when I get closer to arriving.

ragden - 7-5-2009 at 06:03 AM

Sounds good. :D

leebrianh - 7-5-2009 at 07:44 AM

FYI, here is our menu for the event:

Saturday lunch: hot dogs and burgers
Saturday night: grilled chicken
Sunday morning: eggs, bacon and sausage
Sunday lunch: hot dogs and burgers + something (one of our club members will bring something but I don't know what it will be)

So, pack light

lad - 8-5-2009 at 06:08 AM

This Friday morning is looking nice (or tolerable at least) in the mid-Atlantic - maybe I should be packing already :duh:

Any way we can catch you guys on any of the Wildwood Webcams?

Todd - 8-5-2009 at 09:43 AM

We are packed and ready... T - minus 3 hours 16 minutes and then a 5 hour ride north :singing:

shehatesmyhobbies - 8-5-2009 at 05:28 PM

well change of plans here! Heading over on Sunday morning. Weather and other conditions more favorable for Sunday! See everyone there! Should be there round 11 or so. Just did a weather check for tomorrow. Rain showers till around noon then wind and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Stay dry guys!

lad - 8-5-2009 at 10:13 PM

I still plan on Sunday too...latest forecast is no rain, BUT winds up to 35! I don't know if I will have any kite small enough! :eekdrull:

leebrianh - 9-5-2009 at 01:49 AM

I've got 1.8M Flexifoil Rage you can fly.

I am leaving in an hour. Forecast actually looks better today (Saturday). See you there.

leebrianh - 9-5-2009 at 09:38 PM

Due to wind condition, we will be gathering at south Wildwood beach (wildwood crest) on sunday. Look for wildwood convention center and we will be half mile south of it (fishing pier). You should be able to our kites.

dillon - 9-5-2009 at 09:56 PM

Location update for Sunday, 10.May:

We will gather at Ocean Pier. Parking is located at Crocus Road & Beach Avenue, just South of the boardwalk.

bobalooie57 - 11-5-2009 at 08:58 AM

Well, what can I say except thank you all for being such hospitable brothers in wind, (and blood after the mosquito fest Sat. night!) Smiled all the way home, even through the 1 1/2 hr excursion thru Philly! Didn't get home 'til 10:15 pm, tired but happy. I'll prolly u2u each of you as I remember our exploits, so don't be surprised if you hear from me. And don't forget to look for my weather updates come snowfall on the hill! Really good times that won't be forgotten. Bob (will there be a fall fest????)

Todd - 11-5-2009 at 10:07 AM

YES! It was a great time... now all of that video footage to go through. :wee:

Glad you could make it Bob!

ragden - 11-5-2009 at 10:10 AM

Bob- Great to have you down. Glad you could make it. Heck of a haul you have there, and glad you made it home alright. I got home about 930 myself, though I left quite a bit later (wanted to stay longer, but the wife was glaring at me and insisting we leave).

Yes there will be a fall event, though the dates have not been set yet. And I cannot wait for the snow myself. :D

rdavis - 11-5-2009 at 10:32 AM

I definitely had a GREAT time, by far my best experience with this hobby so far. I can't wait to see all the pictures and video that everyone captured at the event. It was great meeting all of you and I can't wait until next time!

shehatesmyhobbies - 11-5-2009 at 11:02 AM

I am so disappointed that I wasn't able to make it. I got held up on Sunday in Baltimore and would not have made it there in a reasonable time to keep from packing up not long after I go there. Rdavis has already filled me in and I can't wait to see all the pics and video. I will try to make my arrangements more permanent next time.

Tibi - 11-5-2009 at 01:24 PM

Even though I missed being there on Friday and Saturday, I was there on Sunday, probably for the best wind conditions of the weekend. It was good meeting old friends and also making new ones.

lad - 11-5-2009 at 07:02 PM

I liked it so much I stayed over a day (in the rain) and just got back.

I must say that a steady breeze and hard packed sand can do wonders for your learning curve. After struggling in tall grass and choppy breezes, I found I wasn't such a dummy anymore. All the boarding and buggying tips I passively absorbed here and elsewhere suddenly snapped into place.

But it wouldn't have happened without the camaraderie of the club members there. They ran out to help fish my kite from the brine and helped me with some nasty tangles and were also good resources of advice and encouragement.

At day's end, Don offered me a quick lesson and spin on his Blokart. Now, I always wondered how those mobile patio lounges could ever compare to the buggy and boarding experience. :bisou: Welll, I soon found out...it's NIIIICCCEEE! It's like a relaxing Central Park carriage ride after a long day of Bronco Busting. Dang it, Don, if I wind-up taking out a third mortgage, I will know who to blame!:duh:

What a good time and a great bunch (and thanks for the generous helping of foodstuff, leebrianh - I will have to bring some extra goodies next time)

leebrianh - 11-5-2009 at 11:19 PM

Thanks all for coming. We had great time. Here are some pictures I took. Enjoy them.
