:bigok: Thanks for staying tuned i think this will be up your ally

as kiters we are cursed from the verry moment we feel the pull of a traction kite or get yanked into the lower atmospher by a kite that someone shouldn't have handed us

we feel compelled to share with others and to check the wind conditions every five minuets hoping for the change we know isn't there Or mabey like me you think about what is to come and how the sport will grow , what it is to become so here is what i daydream about and play the lottery for in the hopes that mabey someday i will see it happen

Background

I live in west texas where if the wind isn't blowing there must be something wrong and where i am not located anywhere near a body of water suitable for kite surfing

every day i drive the roads in and around midland and odessa tx watching so much prime kiting realestate pass my window.

when a sport is growing location is everything i have the perfect opertunity but no funds to create Kite West Texas a mythical place that is four sections square passed on the north and the south by an interstate and the midcity highway a location that would captivate onlookers and draw interest

(when ever i kite at the local school with my 4.5m little devil 1 out of 2 cars stop to watch and when i put up my Havoc 14m 2 out of 3 stop to watch I am sure if i had a buggie or a board people would come talk to me)

I would split the land north to south because our prevailing winds are from the west: southwest on the west side would be the land kiters side with lighting on the west fence so there could be knight ridding. It would have soccer feild style grass that was watered via sprinklers from the wells on the property and kept mowed, also it would have jumps kickers and rails to spice things up and provide an outlet for progression

down the middle would be 100 camp sites w/ facilitys, living quarters for certified instructors, wind generators to provide the necessary electricity and provide income, and
the local ( only ) kite shop.

On the east side would be the boat house for the electric wakboard boats (for training and those non windy days ) a swimming area and learners flats (about 3.5ft deep) beyond that would be the deeper water (about twenty feet deep) for doing big airs and wake boarding.

also so the park is more accesible to all the reservoir their would be small sailing boats and or catermerans if kiting wasn't your cup of tea.

the water reservoir would have a thick clay or concreet bottom to minimize absorbtion. it would be stocked with fish to keep it cleen and circulation pumps to help keep it cleen

so is any boddy still listning if you are let me know what you think

and just to clarify the west and east halfs would be 1.5 miles wide by 4 miles long sacrificing 1 mile to the facility's and camping grounds:yes::Ange09:

some day maybe i estimate total cost from nothing to finished between 5 and 10 million ?

build it and they will come

I think a place like that is in all our dreams ... so someone hit that lotto so we can all come play.

get donald trump on the phone NOW!!!! its funny you wrote this today because i was daydreaming at work and i thought"it would be cool to get some snow skis, then build a ramp with some snow, grab a kite and do some crazy jumps!!mines more than a pipe dream--im gonna do it come winter--and then all my kiting buddies can visit me in the hospital lol:shocked2::shocked2::shocked2::shocked2::shocked2:

Nowhere near the scale you are talking about, but I always found the notion of the Essex Powerkite Park to be fascinating.

no lights , think zero maintenance. too much stuff..

solar panels/wind for juice. sun and wind farm... there's some state & fed.$ for that ie ... grassland management study site, irrigation runoff watershed study site, a university study plot excavation site.....these are the sources. create jobs , nondestructive, non consuming, a population enrichment park. if the ambient light is low stargazers would have access as diversity, multi-use type thing think eco-educational and the government/tax system would be A path(not the only) , with park like features. non-profit/development suppression .

the camping thing is def right direction.

sounds good go with it..

if you really want it ....take another step in that direction.

you've already taken one

Dude - I had THE SAME conversation with my wife just this past Monday as we dove 6 hours to and from Calgary watching those same fields upon fields of kite paradise go by.

I think the spirits are telling us to figure out how to make it happen.

Look into reclaiming old landfill areas that have been closed. Usually have terrain, elevation, therefore more accesible winds. Also have methane production as a side source of energy. B57

;-) Thanks for the replies everyone Your suportive comments have made me consider developing a buisness plan and presenting it to our local EDC. Also further comments on size and general thoughts would be apreciated

what is the smallest size you could host an event where the space would be best utilized to keep land cost to a minimum

hope to hear back remember i planned for each half to be 1.5m wide and 4m long with the lenght running perpendicular to prevailing winds:eureka:
