Snowy Plover Bashing "Verbally"

SCREWYFITS - 26-4-2009 at 10:11 AM

O.K... I know there are others chapped by this damn "snowy plover" besides me... And let me apologize in advance, because I'll probably go overboard with this subject... so here is my official "SORRY"...

Well it's time we get to bash'n (verbally) the plover...

I'll start by saying "what the F is this stupid bird, that it can't survive if a kite flies by", god help the lil critter if it saw a plane in the far off sky... oooouuh what happens if a seagull flies overhead, do they explode or die... they must not have a natural predator, just humans having fun...

I'd think that if they can't survive because a kite flies by or ATV drives past then they aren't going to survive anyways... funny thing is, they seem to be everywhere, especially where people want to have fun... How come they aren't anywhere else that people don't frequent, and be able to thrive and prosper there... does anyone have a clue why they're endangered already...

How come they aren't in the snow anyways... Great, are they gonna ban snow skiing and boarding now...

Sorry football players you can't play here, "The Snowy Plover"... (that'd suck)
Sorry but you cant ride your bicycle here, "The Snowy Plover"...
Sorry but you can't golf here, "The Snowy Plover"...
Sorry your kids can't play in this park, "The Snowy Plover"...

I know, lets get behind this subject and maybe we can get rid if some of the politicians that make these laws, by saying they can't practice politics here, "The Snowy Plover"...

O.K. the soap box is open to someone else now, unnnleeess... "The Snowy Plover"...

Hurry up because, I know I'll think of more real quick!!!

beachrights - 26-4-2009 at 01:24 PM

You will probably now get a $5000 fine from the Feds for verbal abuse against a Plover!!:eekdrull:

bigben91682 - 26-4-2009 at 01:26 PM

I love Plovers, but I can never finish a whole one.

B-Roc - 26-4-2009 at 01:34 PM

We've got Piping Plovers out here. As soon as they arrive the Park Rangers on the National Seashore restrict any kind of kite flying. Just when you think soccer players were the bain of your existence inland, along comes a stupid bird to put an end to your flying on the coast.

BeamerBob - 26-4-2009 at 03:23 PM

What's the limit on Plovers? Plovers were mentioned in my denial letter from the Fort Clinch State Park in Florida, in the same sentence about the lunacy of mixing small children, plovers, surf fishermen, and brakeless vehicles capable of going over 70 mph. You see what we're dealing with here. Complete lunacy. We are animals too. It should be survival of the fittest. Something so spazzed that it can't breed and care for its young if a kite flies past isn't going to last very long anyway. The humans have rights too. We have the right to go to the beach just like any other animal. Somehow I don't mind knocking off at dusk to let the baby turtles make it to the surf. They need a shot at life and dusk to dawn is fair.

bobalooie57 - 26-4-2009 at 04:02 PM

C'mon peeps, I love plovers.... with BBQ sauce!:piggy:Bob

Bladerunner - 26-4-2009 at 04:53 PM

What I don't get is why I never heard of these "snowey" P-lovers up here in Canada EH

It's like P-lovers have no rights up here ! We may still club baby seals and stuff but at least we can do it with a BUGGY

kitepool - 26-4-2009 at 06:58 PM

we have piping plovers in these parts
dork bird watchers have our elected
officials convinced that they are rare
things whose nests which are shallowly buried
in loose sand must be protected
and its bull#@%$#!
there's hundereds of these idiot birds every where
they are so stupid that you can walk right up to them and toss a shirt to catch one
running in and out of the shallowest beach water

those ultra nature loving birdwatchers like'em so much
cause they don't need binoculars to see them

oh yea and I was going to say
'Hey gives u an excuse to take up kite surfing in water
but no,
those sniveling birder nerd queefers
say oooo! "you will scare the plovers with the kite
they think its a bird o' prey"
when all u wanna do is launch and go out to sea!

ripsessionkites - 26-4-2009 at 08:37 PM

at least your beach authority has limited it to one thing ... Snowy Ps. on the positive side, that could work out more in your favor to reverse the By-Laws.

maybe hold a KITE EVENT to Save the Snowy Ps. Angus's (Coastal Windsports) event to help sea turtles probably goes a LONG way in the spotlight.

SCREWYFITS - 27-4-2009 at 09:04 AM

HHHAAAAYYYY Rip this is a Bash thread!!!!
good point, but yo have to bash them first...

Looking_Up - 27-4-2009 at 01:08 PM

If you think about it those plovers are on the beach don't you think all of the people walking by and general beach activity be worse on them than a few kiters i mean its not like there are 100 kiters out all at once shreding up the sand sounds like someone with to much money and a few freinds in high places was put of by the kiting and used his weight to manipulate the system:mad:

heliboy50 - 28-4-2009 at 12:19 AM

I'm doing some research, but my favorite plover recipe so far is grilled after marinating in white wine and lemon. Seriously though, I think in the grand scheme of all things eco-friendly, our sport has got to be one of the best (excluding the blue smoke emanating from some of our garages.) I think there is probably some truth to what Looking-up said- somebody got some ruffled feathers and took it to the extreme. I would think that dogs would be a far greater threat to fragile beach wild life (ah crap- now they'll ban dogs- me and my big mouth.)

Kamikuza - 28-4-2009 at 03:33 AM

Come to Asia - if it's rare and endangered, it's on the menu  "You killed endangered bird? Enough left for drumsticks on rice?"

Sthrasher38 - 27-5-2009 at 01:48 PM

I don't even know what the dam thing looks like! Is it that little pidly bird running around in the sand hiding behind everything just waiting to get ran over? What the hell happens if you do kill one,2? Ya know..Wtf? Are they sitting on the beach waiting for someone to say oops I killed a little bird. I guess I have to go to prison now. Or pay some outrageous $ amount thats even better yet. Yea, I guess jogging and dogs should be banned Hell! everone off the dam beach until the bird over populates or goes into extinction!! Hows that for bashing? If the towns and cities can't get money from tourists that are attracted to are beaches, the dam goverment would open a wildlife area for the dam thing and call it good. Thanks for a good tread Screwy. I needed to complain about something. Wish it could make a difference.:flaming:

kitejumper - 27-5-2009 at 03:01 PM

lets keep the plovers, but GET RID of these FANATICAL CLOWNS making all these RIDICULOUS DECISIONS to BAN KITING.........these people obviously dont have enough to do......

bison - 27-5-2009 at 03:05 PM

When this whole craz hit the Oregon Coast, the Parks dept tried to hide their public meetings and keep them on the low down. DIDN'T WORK!!! The Oregonian did a small article on the Plover and since I worked at the Seaside Signal at the time, I jumped right on it. I downloaded PDFs, Maps, etc... and created graphics to accompany the FRONT PAGE STORY!!!

Needless to say, the open meeting in Seaside was about a month before I heard about it. Maybe 20 people attended that meeting. After the story ran in the Signal, the next meeting was in Tillamook. That meeting was packed with standing room only and about 200 people outside. The parks department was overwhelmed!!! Many people had the cover of the Signal with them and pasted on sign boards.

What did this accomplish? Two areas that were to be snowy plover areas are NOT today due to the Signal's reporting and the involvement of so many people. Not to mention, the grass that the Plovers nest in is NOT native grass to this area. OOPS!

I don't need to bash the plovers, its not the birds that have done this, its the parks people listening to the loudest voices! Where is your voice? Where was it when the public meetings were held in your area? Get involved, it is the only way to make change. The citizens of the North Oregon Coast beat them back, so can you.

Last thing I heard concerning this topic is that the Snowy Plovers on the coast are genetically equivalent to those in the Rocky Mnts (and they are not endangered). I believe a law suit was in effect concerning this troubling development.

arkay - 27-5-2009 at 03:13 PM

Aweee... it's so cute. Just couldn't resist posting this result from google image search  that plover needs to be photoshopped into a buggy...

Sthrasher38 - 27-5-2009 at 03:14 PM

Wow, Way to make a difference. It sounds like you were in the right place at the right time. And yea its not the birds fault. being serious you are right. On the other hand so much for Screwys tread. And thanks for the cute little picture.

kitejumper - 27-5-2009 at 07:25 PM

excellent point,Bison........its certainly not the birds fault.......i fly almost every day and i get loads of nice comments from all kinds of people--but im sure there are a couple people out there watching us that, for one reason or another feel they dont want us kiting--could be jealousy or some other ridiculous reason but there are always going to be a few people out there that "know whats best for us" LOL and want to regulate/ban our sport.....there is no WAY im letting that happen up here......

SCREWYFITS - 28-5-2009 at 09:03 AM

"bison", your banned from my thread!!! lol...

You have a good point, no... a great point... but this thread is about plover bashing, hehe...

Our beaches have been banned (to a lot of fun activities) due to people trying to protect the plover (with ulterior motives) and they are not endangered, IMO, because they seem to be everywhere...

Well this thread should be more correctly titled "Politics Bashing" or "#@%$#! Talk the Plover Just for the Fun of it"... I guess we are technically bashing the whole protection of something fictional (something that isn't endangered when they are inhabiting the world)... the plovers get to take a fall for it... LOL...

So maybe we should have a secret meeting about the sand is endangered and the plover lovers are a threat to the grains of sand, then ban these dip#@%$#!s from the beach...

As far as my voice goes, I guess I'll have to get lucky and hear about a meeting and attend... we don't have to many papers that cover these happenings... plus we are loosing the paper to the WWW and the web doesn't just throw this kind of info in your face...
Having a voice is difficult and I appreciate what you and your community have done, congratulations...

If I get a chance I'll support...

O.K. people< back to bashing!!!

WARNING: Bashing the Snowy Plover may relieve stress build up and cause you to have a few days stress free!!!:wee:

where is his kite?

nwsurfwakeskate - 28-5-2009 at 04:10 PM

wow this thread is great

reminds me of when I was down in florida and a flock of seagulls fighting over a fish flew threw my flying lines.....the one holding the fish apparently couldn't multi-task very well because he hit the lines full force and dropped the fish. it was pretty hilarious actually. they never did get that fish. I think it died from the heat flopping around in the burning hot sand.

I love interacting with nature ;)

mougl - 28-5-2009 at 04:33 PM

I can't say that in my area we have the plover problem, or that I've ev er seen one of these tasty morsels, but if I do, I have some hot sauce I'm dying to try :)

dgkid78 - 28-5-2009 at 04:37 PM

We got the Piper Plovers here in Mass. and it's the same story. if my dog pisses too loud on the beach. All hell breaks loose

That's Flipping great!!!
I wonder if we could get that to the tree huggers and show them that plovers like kite buggies and their pilots... and they miss us...

BeamerBob - 29-5-2009 at 04:13 AM

See! They aren't afraid of buggies at all! Hey, those things aren't going to make a mess in my seat are they? :shocked2: :megan:

WIllardTheGrey - 29-5-2009 at 02:18 PM

I put some non-native beach grass in the buggy for them to crap on.

Btw Beamer Bob thanks for loaning me your buggy to raise a new generation of dinner in.

bison - 29-5-2009 at 02:49 PM

"...sounds like you were in the right place at the right time"

Yep, worked at the Signal less than a year when it happened

"On the other hand so much for Screwys tread"

So is Screwy having tire problems?... BAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! (THreads like this start some of the best discussions, but hijacking threads is MY specialty, so leave me alone DAMMIT!!!:alien: )

"I guess I'll have to get lucky and hear about a meeting and attend..."

DUDE! Make a phone call, check their website, don't wait for them to inform you, THEY WORK FOR YOU!!! MAKE THEM WORK FOR YOU!!! Don't take NO or I DON'T KNOW for an answer. BE POLITE! Ask to speak with someone else, a supervisor maybe, get email addresses, names whatever. Stay on it! Don't Slack! If you keep it up you will probably be the first person notified when they do hold a public meeting.
