Sunset Beach This Weekend 5/16

arkay - 12-5-2009 at 09:09 PM

Jim had a sunset beach meet up on the napkra calendar for this weekend... too early for conditions, but I plan to be there :) :wee:

csa_deadon - 12-5-2009 at 09:28 PM

Working

heliboy50 - 13-5-2009 at 02:15 AM

Me too me too....

sunset-Jim - 13-5-2009 at 06:50 AM

Conditions are looking very good. Other than there still being quite a bit of driftwood about, the beach (especially the dunes) are in great shape.

hmmm, I think I'll be out there.....:ninja:

I'll see if my injuries heal by then. (Fell flat on to my head/ back/tailbone) from 10 feet up. Stupid me.

OUCH! :shocked2: Hope you heal quickly.

unfortunately the weather is going to be awesome. but, if the winds go East, like they will likely do, you gotta have jim show you were the Secret East wind spot is. It's absolutely beautiful and not easy to get to anymore.

It should be good 10 and 12m weather.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 65. North northwest wind between 5 and 11 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. North northeast wind between 3 and 10 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 66. Calm wind becoming west northwest between 4 and 7 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 46.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 64.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48.

Today and tomomrrow look great. Mad gusts to 50 last night :ticking:

Yeah I just saw the 4-7 on Sat come up on noaa... kitesurf doesn't show anything better at this point. WFO is saying 5-10 increasing to 10-15. There's a pressure system in the south that _may_ move up in time to make a strong N'ly wind (the tear drop on atmos).

My biggest kite is a 7m fixed, which will barely get me moving in 9. I had it out a few weeks ago in 8mph and I could never get it power up enough to move faster than a walk and turning was out of the question :)

Here's hoping the forecast improves!

Wind is what wind is! There's should be slightly more tomorrow 8-10, but I plan up coming up. I won't have the kids either so hopefully someone will be back from RV'ing to sell me a bigger kite :)

arkay - 16-5-2009 at 01:04 PM

Loop - 16-5-2009 at 01:20 PM

Im gonna head down there in a few, but after catching the flu on fri I think Im just gonna rest on a blanket or in a chair. I thought flushing my face out with salt water yesterday on my kiteboard would help, But not really.

arkay - 16-5-2009 at 05:52 PM

heliboy50 - 16-5-2009 at 09:29 PM

Mist till around noon then partly cloudy and 12-14 mph out of the NW. I'm goin' tomorrow.

bigkid - 16-5-2009 at 10:02 PM

arkay - 17-5-2009 at 08:24 AM

Yeah, my forecast says no wind til near noon then 10mph NW til sunset. thought yesterday was a 7-10mph forecast for manzanita and that was clearly wrong :)

Have you gotten any confirmation on what the winds were yesterday in Manzanita? AND.... are you by chance missing another hat..:P

arkay - 17-5-2009 at 09:30 AM

yesterday in the late afternoon(2-7) 15-20 and 20-25. As I was coming down the mountain I could see the droves of kiteboarders. Wind died to 10 by 7:30.

lol on the hat, I was wearing my blue kauai hat. I'll have to look in my car. I clearly need to tie a rope to my hat.

sunset-Jim - 17-5-2009 at 09:33 AM

Uhhh, it's not in your car.... Brian now has 2 new hats... lol

arkay - 17-5-2009 at 10:49 AM

Ha, then next time I should bring a seahawks hat :)
Wind just picked up here... 8lull -11ave -15gust mph! Here's hoping the wind sticks around... 0.6 ft low tide at 2:22

arkay - 17-5-2009 at 11:28 AM

heliboy50 - 18-5-2009 at 01:07 AM

Just wanted to say thanks to sunset-Jim and vwbrian for the advice today. Nice meeting you both. After you guys left, I quit pyle-driving the JoJo into the sand and actually put together 3 decent runs. Haven't figured out the whole up wind thing yet but I was actually making turns with out killing the kite. Got some speed up too- those big driftwood chunks sure get close in a hurry. Thanks again guys, and see you back out there soon.

sunset-Jim - 18-5-2009 at 06:48 AM

Ya, it was nice meeting you too and allowing me to be the first to ride your buggy  Hope to be sein ya out there again soon.

Bill, how was the fog in Manzanita yesterday? We had some good winds all day too, but MAN, was it foggy.

Thanks to all that did come out. As always, it was a lot of fun.

arkay - 18-5-2009 at 01:00 PM

WNW winds @ 23, got out my 2.5 rage tuned up. I planned to head down to the jetty.. clear skys over me, except those pesky clouds a few miles off shore. Started off just flying the kite _AT_ zenith and I was going 18 :) Neat! By the time I got to the camp ground the fog rolled in. Some crazy kid was going also just going out on the water with his 12m... I went a bit further but wasn't sure if it was going to clear up or not.. so I just started to tack back. The fog was only there for about 20minutes or so. We've got the mountain to the N of the beach which pretty much blocks all weather systems, kind of a nice feature to have! By the time I got back to where the roads and houses are the fog was gone and the wind was still strong. Tons of beach with the low low tide to get up speed and do 180s. Lots of kite surfers and wind surfers. And some crazy guy trying to fly a B3 on 80# kite string and by logs. I kindly explained the err in his ways and help him pack it up. All in all a fantastic day!! pptttthhhh to the weathermen who predicted 7-10. Wind was good til 6:30, when the kite surfers kits fell out of the sky and they started swimming :wee:
