PL naming conventions question

Kamikuza - 16-5-2009 at 04:04 AM

What's with the Peter Lynn names? Sniffing around I see PL Scorpion - but nothing on the website ... I remember drooling over the Guerilla - but nothing on the website. I got a Rebble - but nothing on the website! There's a pattern here :)

Do they rename the models every year?
Is there a history of the products somewhere?

Ta!

Oh and ... why are the bottom skins always white :megan:

They seem to change names on their kites when they make a design change. Particularly frustrating on the twinskins since they only offer 1 or 2 twinskin models each year and yet people like certain kites like the Phantom and Venoms but can't be purchased new. I would think they could sell many units of the older twinskins and benefit from continual use of kite names for familiarity. I understand the Phantom was a frequently used kite at this years NABX as it has been in years past. PL mgmt was there so maybe they noticed and 2010 Phantoms will be in the catalog.

Like any line of kites, new models replace others as the R&D progresses. Scorpions are still available; you just have to ask a dealer. there is something of a chronology here...

The new model is the Charger, not yet listed...

Flies faster and turns tighter that way...

i was told many many years ago that White Fabric was lighter too. dunno how truthful that is, but in Sunny Weather you can see through it, which is cool too.

i do know that White Ripstop is cheaper in price.
i like angus response better. hehehe. my teamrider PL Vapors are coming in WHITE.

some sizes in the Scorpions are still available, Ill have the last of the Phantoms in 15 and 18 in a weeks time. good news is that the Synergy will price drop shortly.

**waiting quietly for my Chargers** few weeks and counting.

... are you pulling my leg about the white??
Are the Scorpions any good for the water? What I've read is that they're designed for the land, and for intermediate to experienced riders only ... if I can pick one up for a nice price :) , I think I'll stash it in the cupboard till I get more XP and level up

Scorps are known to be more difficult to water relaunch

While we're talking about PL ...
Took my Bullet out for the first time today - the brake lines are swinging in the wind like they're not even attached  and when you pull them, the smallest little flap at the rear moves. BIG difference to the Rebble, which likes a little tension on the brakes and deforms 1/2 the wing when you hit the brakes!

Bullet is Flexifoil :puzzled:

anyway, you can always tighten the brakes by putting another knot in the lower leaders if there is no adjustment up at the bridle.

Yeah but comparing it to my Rebble :) there wasn't much wind so I didn't get to see what it could do though ...
