I've finally got some quality static flights under my belt and my ATB curiosity is starting to get the best of me. I fly a PL Twister II 5.6m, and
have an extensive background in skateboarding, skimboarding, wakeboarding, and surfing. The terrain I will most be using the landboard on is beach
(good pack under about 1.5" of loose sand, and a field that isn't manicured, but decently maintained. I weigh about 190, and thusfar have only flown
with handles. I have no idea what to look for in a landboard for my first one...
Any suggestions? Please? Lol

definitely want a beefy board ie GI patrol 106 (ground industries)
start with it loose and work up to firmer stuff for grip, speed and hard edge
comp 16 MBS
old core 16 MBS
about 40-41" deck
soft sand of any kind is not so good, needs to be hard pack or you are going to struggle
rough feild ...it's rough! gonna be filled with surprises
boards with better swing weight for freestyle are smaller and lighter they don't fit big guys so well ...esp if you are taller
eli has some good entry level GI 103 ,,,,i think... eli usa on the pkf
good luck

Thabks for the input! I kind of figured the sand would be a problem but my friend seems to have found a couple more very nice fields in our area so
sand may not be where we fly. I have only used handles so far, are handles ok for boarding? I ask because I see so many people on boards flying with
bars. Didn't know if it made a big diff.

handles are fine / you will want to harness for longer rides using a strop line connecting the handles
balancing thru the harness is the next progression after starting on handles .
you don't have to have a harness but it really expands the full riding experience.
kite type and preferences come to the equation with time and experience

Looks like I have a lot to look forward to I fly with a PL backstrap now, but I
see a harness in my future
Thanks for the input!

At your weight I think that an MBS Core 95 would be a great choice. Lots of value in that board. The Core 90 might work, but for a guy you're size I
think you'll want to spring for the beefier Core 95. I'm not very familiar with other brands, but if you spend $250 or so you should end up with a
nice board.
Handles are fine to landboard with.
I don't think you'll have much luck with the soft sand over hardpack, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. I found that a hard packed
surface (be it beach or field) was really key to help me get moving.

Iīd say donīt buy the most expensive out there right away, you might not like it at all.
Look for a cheaper board to start with, most of em will provide enough fun on your first runs. Second hand can be good just as long you know what you
get, but there are also some brands that offer entry level boards for a good price.
Iīm not sure if the following brands are available in the US but Scrub, Libre, Kheo and a couple of others that I canīt think of right now all offer
pretty decent boards for reasonable bucks.

I wound up with an MBS comp 90 (TY again Dino!...DAKITEZ) its going to find a home here. It was a bit rough going at first but every ride seemed to
get a little easier. LOVE IT!
