O please god no

Kamikuza - 5-6-2009 at 08:19 PM

Went down to my local kitesurf beach today, haven't been there for a while ... wind was cranking and time was short so I had a play with the Rev. Was a bit baffled that there was nobody there at all, not even cars in the carpark. Oh well. Had a nice play anyway ...
Walked back to the car on the path - I tromped through the trees to get to the beach - and noticed a newish looking sign ... can't read it very well (it's in Japanese) but there was a picture of a bug (Cicindela laetescripta) and a punch of stuff I could read like "Prohibited" and "$5,000 fine and 1 year in jail and stuff ...

... I have a sneaking suspicion that the beach has been closed - because of an ugly #@%$#!in' bug :puzzled: :o

Best place to surf for bloody hundreds of miles! Note the windsurfers, one beach down (separated by a river) are still out and about ...

Grr ... going to call the club owner and find out ...

BeamerBob - 5-6-2009 at 08:21 PM

In Japanese? Where are you? I"m sure you've said before but it isn't shown at the sidebar.

Kamikuza - 5-6-2009 at 09:04 PM

Japan :) about an hours drive east of Kyoto, by the big lake ...

heliboy50 - 5-6-2009 at 09:47 PM

Stick an empty can of raid on top of the sign with a note in english that says "Problem Solved." Seriously though that sucks. I've said it before- we have got to be one of the lowest impact adventure sports around- why can't we be left alone?

elfasa - 6-6-2009 at 02:01 AM

wow.. that reaqlly sucks...

hope you get it sorted soon :)

Kamikuza - 6-6-2009 at 02:59 AM

Zero chance of getting it sorted. Well actually, it's possible but getting it sorted will mean finding another part of the lake to kite on where we won't have to fight the windsurfers, jetskiers, fishermen (wankers), locals or 'campers' ... :(

Why the hell are we protecting these evolutionary losers?

BeamerBob - 6-6-2009 at 04:13 AM

Does this bug hurt us or do we hurt the bug (in theory)?

Kamikuza - 6-6-2009 at 06:35 AM

Seems it's a level II risk of extinction, whatever that means. Apparently it used to be fairly widespread in Japan, but not any more. Can't adapt = evolution says fail IMO ...

Ugly brute - save the cute 'n' cuddlies I say :dunno:

 Love it!
When working for the local ems provider a few years ago, our quarters was infested with spiders. We would
go buy a six pack of aqua net and a couple of lighters. Boss could never figure out why the eves looked just
a little darker.

bobalooie57 - 6-6-2009 at 09:35 AM

Cuz they go good with rice! Can't be starving the locals! B

kitejumper - 6-6-2009 at 10:37 AM

if you remove the middle legs on that bug,it would make a great power kite:smilegrin:

DonaldLL - 6-6-2009 at 12:00 PM

Take a few of them for a "buggie" ride.... :bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

mougl - 6-6-2009 at 01:54 PM

Wow Donald...after that, I've got nothing :P

WIllardTheGrey - 6-6-2009 at 02:22 PM

What is but bug called? Looks weird.

Kamikuza - 6-6-2009 at 06:34 PM

In Japanese, kawarahanmyou ... apparently it pops up in Siberia and Mongolia too - leave it there, I say ... there's enough bloody bugs in this #@%$#!ty swampy poxy country :(

Kamikuza - 7-6-2009 at 06:26 PM

No word yet from the club across the road from the beach owner and operator ... dude will have lost a good part of his livelyhood if all activity has been banned  hope he's just out riding somewhere and hasn't topped himself ...!

SCREWYFITS - 8-6-2009 at 08:53 AM

I say lets plant some Plovers there so they have something to eat... AAAAWWWW never mind, then they would want to ban flying kites due to the F'n Plover...

Lets organize a Buggy Bash!!! hhhaaaaha, that's a great pun!!!

Good luck, that really sucks!!!

Kamikuza - 16-6-2009 at 12:06 AM

A J-friend had a look at the sign and it SEEMS to say - IF you kill the bug THEN you're in the #@%$#!. Doesn't seem to be prohibiting use of the beach

lad - 16-6-2009 at 10:41 AM

Take a tip from CSI - if you kill one, you will need to burn the body and make it look like an accident!:frog:

lad - 16-6-2009 at 10:48 AM

kitejumper may be on to something, maybe it was Power Kiters out there who attracted the bugs to begin with...

Kamikuza - 16-6-2009 at 06:17 PM

Hey this is Japan ... an old man got murdered in my town in public toilets - about 5m from the police station. They're still looking for the killer.
About 10km from this beach is yet another beach used for water sports ... my gringo friends and I call it "Atama-hama" or "Head Beach" cos about 6 months ago a man's head washed up on the beach :alien: his arms and legs washed up north and south of that beach :eekdrull:

Wallwalker - 23-6-2009 at 03:16 PM

Kyoto is great I was there in 93. Spent time in Okinawa as well, man I wish I was into kiting back then because we had beaches to die for with no extra body parts floating up to trip over.

I have an organic solution to the bug problem. CHICKENS get a few chickens and let them go on the beach 2 days no more bugs.

Power Kite Guy - 23-6-2009 at 06:06 PM

I'm in Tokyo now and headed to Kyoto and Nara this weekend. Can you recommend any good places for kiting close by?

Thanks

Kamikuza - 23-6-2009 at 06:33 PM

My kite buddy in Shizuoka takes a month of to go to Okinawa for his own pleasure :D

This weekend? Land or water?
Forecast is easterlies around 10kph ... in this area.
http://freemeteo.com/default.asp?pid=23&gid=1848489&...
Get out to the sea of Japan coast. The only place I know though is about 2 hours north of Kyoto, called Uchinada. A beach for kite festivals so there'll be land and sea avaliable - maybe. I've not been there yet ...
Nara is about 2 hours south of Kyoto and more inland - dunno anything about kiting there :(

piku303 - 1-7-2009 at 09:53 AM

america F-YEAH...coming to save the mother F-in day yeah!
