kitejumper - 8-6-2009 at 07:46 PM

had the blade 3 10.5 out for 4 hrs today--winds 10-15--got some beautiful long scuds and then some awesome jumps!! best jump was about 15 feet all jumps with nice soft landings (thank God)!! the sky was the limit today!!no pun intended!! another great back-forearm-shoulder workout and cardio as well!! looking forward to going back out next time winds kick up!!BLADES RULE!!!!!!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

f0rgiv3n - 8-6-2009 at 08:18 PM

RIGHT ON! oh man, there's nothin' better than a great jumping session with smooth soft landings ;D. that sounds like it would be PERFECT conditions for that 10.5m blade :D. Maybe one day i'll be able to get a shot at a big ol' blade ;D. Good for you bro! You'll be sore tomorrow....

mougl - 8-6-2009 at 09:17 PM

Awesome man! 10.5 blade in 10-15? Ur a beast

kitejumper - 8-6-2009 at 10:06 PM

i can fly it in more wind because im not doing full pendulum jumps....the main limiting factor now is the extreme workout-tough on the body--ilike to fly a kite in as many different conditions as possible (within reason) that way you get a good idea of your limits with the kite and you can push the envelope more safely--yeah forgiven, you have to get a big blade-its the most fun ive ever had--im SERIOUSLY ADDICTED-and i aint kidding--its all i think about--once you get some good jumps you just cant get enough-it really IS like a drug BTW mougl, thats a funny avatar lol

kitedog - 9-6-2009 at 06:32 AM

Brief hijack...I've got a sweet BIII 10.5 modded by John at Powerzone with a Flysurfer style depower. This thing rocks and it is in crispy condition. $400 takes it away...bag and all!

mougl - 9-6-2009 at 03:53 PM

thanks kj! I envision that avatar as me trying the ATB for the first time this weekend :singing:

Safe Nafe - 24-6-2009 at 05:29 PM

:alien: wow that's a pretty big kite for jumping... I'm using a 4m atm and thing I've hit its limit... Been using it 1 year and can't get higher than 5-6ft but I do get nice soft landings... I'm ready for a bigger kite I thing :)

Jack1988 - 2-9-2009 at 04:03 PM

Sounds awesome man- I can dream of that kite

kitejumper - 2-9-2009 at 08:09 PM

i got 30 ft once--just an estimate, but i was about as high as a telephone pole however high that is--when i hit 50 feet im going to retire.........

Just like lad says. We need videos, no video means it didn't happen.

But seriously. I'd love to see that to compare your techniques to mine. I've had 20 even 30 foot jumps with my 8m Ace, but the landings were not pretty cause I haven't been able to redirect with it during that kinda jump.

kitejumper - 2-9-2009 at 10:45 PM

sorry for you that youre a non-believer--i was up there and it was SWEEEET haha---my jumping technique is different from most--i prefer to jump straight up towards the zenith at very little to no side angle--i believe this gives me the best chance for a redirect--and a soft landing........if you dont believe my jump--just take a blade 10.5 out in about 15--i think after about an hr-you will believe anything---lol --one more thing--i would think that it would be easy for you to believe someone could get 30 feet high w a 10.5 blade--after all,you just said you have had 20-30 ft jumps with a 8m kite.........and u might want to postpone your big jumps if you cant redirect well--i'd hate to see one of your monster jumps end in disaster........cheers and i'll see you in the clouds-lol

Jack1988 - 3-9-2009 at 07:39 AM

30ft jumps! :o

Are you guys strapped in with a bar and harness?

I will crap myself when i hit 10ft lol

FloRider - 3-9-2009 at 08:01 AM

Please dont take my comments the wrong way. I was mearly suggesting we all want to see what you are doing and how. Maybe we can learn something, maybe we can teach something.

Personally I have never got that high. The highest I've been with my Ace is 18 feet. I had the kite at Zenith felt the tug of a gust and launched, but like I said the landing was not pretty. I was talking about horizontal distance when I said 20-30 feet.

no problem, but it does get a little irritating when nobody believes you--when i can finally get a gopro,i'll be putting up plenty of video--the best advice and the only advice i can offer on jumping is one word......COMMITMENT--if you dont understand, then you probably shouldnt be jumping--cheers and i'll see ya in the clouds

video is easy, any point and shoot can do it...

but it's very rare that you get those best jumps of the day on video.

i posted a jump video on here a while back but my good jumps of the day weren't on it... they're still in my memories tho.

i had a nice full moon night session just now on my ace 8, be hard to put that on video.

at the end of the day when you are jumping it's your experience, you should know what you do and what you don't do yet, and everybody makes their own decisions in that regard.

i guess what i want to say is that if you're flying to jump don't worry about folks believing you, you know what you've been up to better than anybody else...

but yes very nice to get it on video and share about -- however it is VERY hard to make the video match up to the best memories bouncing around in your head.

Jack1988 - 3-9-2009 at 12:03 PM

COMMITMENT = Dont let go :D

furbowski - 3-9-2009 at 12:15 PM

I find the ace 8 a really hard kite to redirect. It's just plain slow in the turns. I keep thinking of putting a crossover on it...

the slow turns make it hard for me to do the set-up turn for the jump with much kite speed, but if I can get the kite speed good coming out of the set-up turn then I know I'm looking at good air.

i can redirect for float kind of OK. but in terms of actively redirecting to shape the jump I can sometimes do that on the blade but never on the 8, not yet anyways.

so for me it's a set-up turn at the edge of the window, as the kite exits the turn i start running upwind somewhere (directly upwind for lift and floaty landings, to the side for more of a sweeper across the ground and usually more of a landing on the move) and get my boost as the kite enters the power zone. as soon as i get my boost i'm redirecting.

also compared to the blade it's harder to keep it flying well after landing. lots of collapses and recoveries deep in the power window, on the blade I hardly ever collapse the canopy but on the ace 8 it happens everytime unless I'm right on tip of the redirect, and I often have to sacrifice a couple feet of vertical to avoid a collapse on landing.

but for $100 US it's doing just fine!:frog:

yes, you are right!! no one can ever take those memories away!! it was a crazy day full of all kinds of 10 -20 ft jumps --dont recall the winds, but they had to be at least 15........and when i made the 30 footer,i heard this kid yell out ---Mom!! look how high that guy is!! LMAO that made my day!!

This is what I have been talking about. I'd love to try a blade or anything else awesome to compare the Ace too. I know the Ace is cheap and flys that way too, but it's all I got right now (fixed bridal)

Jack1988 - 3-9-2009 at 04:47 PM

have you got a camera phone KJ? catch a few jumps on it, stick it on the pc, it will go on youtube in 30 seconds.

Aces are fantastic jumpers below 7m in size, then they can turn quick enough so they're much easier to jump.

I guess with the eight I just keep working at it trying to get decent jumps out of it and well it gets better and better as my skills improve. In other words the better I get with it the more fun I have with it. Stick with it

If I ever do put a brake crossover on mine I'll let folks know how well it works.
