Has anyone ever buggied at Longboat Key, Florida? I'm headed there this weekend for a family gathering and thought I'd try to squeeze in some buggy
time if there's a good site near by.

Longboat Key is not ideal with the skinny beaches, crowds and uptight locals. A beach that welcomes kiters is just up the road and over the bridge.
Treasure Island always has somebody flying some sort of kite on the beach. Sunday the locals sometimes have a fun fly / get together. They have a big
kite festival on the beach every year in January. I think from Longboat Key you can go up route 41 to sunshine skyway bridge, which will be I-275 as
well, and then I think Central Avenue exit takes you straight West to the beach. Central Avenue was having bridge work that closed that road, but I
think it is completed now. It is about an hour ride up from Longboat Key to Treasure Island. Google map it all and you will see why we buggy at
Treasure Island when we go to the West coast of Florida. Huge beach no matter what tide or wind direction. The North end of the beach has a good
parking lot with a concession stand. The sun bathers usually stay south of here as well. I hope this helps out.

Yep, that's what I recalled about Longboat. Too bad it hasn't changed. :-(
I've heard Treasure Island is good, but have yet to go try it. My folks live in Palm Harbor--technically not far away--but it's a slog through the
traffic I've never been willing to bite off when I'm visiting.
Do you need wide tires at Treasure Island? All I have are the older wheel barrow tires that have a very round profile. Sometimes they can handle the
sand above the high tide line and sometimes they can't.
