Berkeley California Kite Festival 7/25-7/26

Berkeley California Kite Festival is coming up. Is anyone going to be able to make it?

I sent a email a couple weeks ago to see if we could get a section for the big kites :) and I have got no response.

If your planning on going make sure you get there early. Just ask Sthrasher about the traffic if you show up late

Berkeley usually has one of the larger big kite fields there, IIRC they set a record for the most octopi last year....might be wrong. I have heard that they are bringing a couple of new giants this year to give them their maiden flight.

Big kites shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you have the proper anchor and are respectful of the other pilots and their gear. Owners of kites that can run $10K or more per kite can get somewhat protective of their kites and space. :)

I am not going to be able to make it this year but hopefully I can get up there again next year. Berkley is always one of the bigger festivals.

Sorry, I'm going to be riding in the agony (24hr bike ride) on the 24th and 25th - probably won't be concious the 26th. Hope to get at least 240 miles in. Take photo's and video and share what you see and do with the rest of us vicarious fliers. I barely get out to fly anymore.:sniff:

I am going down early on Saturday the 25th with my oldest. Seems like each year something has come up preventing me from going. Usually its soccer seeding tournaments or shuffling kids around band camp. This year the kids are being farmed out and we're heading to Berkley!

While driving down the 80, if you see a silver jeep with DRVALOT on the plate, give me a honk as you pass.

Meet you at the Peter Lynn flags.
I was just in Sonoma Valley at the NHRA drag racing event and the wind was cranking. Hopefully it will be in Berkeley tomorrow. 2 days of contrasting events. Should be interesting.

The festival was a blast today. Hanging out with my oldest son Alex and finally got a chance to meet some cool people. It was nice to finally meet DAKITEZ, AD72, SCREWYFITS, and KYTE SLINGER. You guys are all awesome.

Hope to see you on the sod farm one day. I'll put a bug and some kites in the Jeep for the next mid-week windy day!

It was great to meet you nhlrule56. I was hoping for winds up in Davis today like we had in Berkeley yesterday but no such luck.
Here is a video I took of the Octopus kites.

very cool vid AD72, those Octi were impressive and enjoyable to have floating overhead all day...

I was happy to meet everyone also, sorry to miss K.Slinger after wanting to meet him for so long...

nhlrule56 it was great meeting you and your son, it will be great to have you out at the farm some time soon... as well as myself, it seem that I can't get time out there myself...

It was fun playing with the new Flexi Blade V 6.5m, and comparing to the IV 6.5 of mine... look for a review soon...

Til next festival...
