Flexifoil Bug Tools

Can someone tell me what tools will be needed to break down a Flexifoil buggy?

I have to put one in a car early in the morning and a list of the correct tools would be nice to have.

Really just two (medium+large) adjustable wrenches will do it. Or include a socket for fun. IF you've got that you're set, I usually just carry the two wrenches, a socket, two screwdrivers just in case.

Too late now, probably, but the Bug came with two adjustable wrenches.
It also came with some copper-based grease to put on the threads of the stainless hardware during assemble. This prevents galling, or seizing. If you can't find it I can send you some. Without it, you may be reaching for a hacksaw one day.

The axle bolts are 19mm and the other bolts are 17mm. You will need 2 of the 17's to hold each size. I think 17 does the headstock as well. Sorry for going to sleep last night.

Thanks guys, I'll look for some of that grease. Got a great deal on this bug and it's only been used a few times.

I did see water running off the front wheel so it may have been stored outside. My next project will be taking the wheels off and having a look at the bearings and front fork.

Maybe the 19 and 17mm will work without the saw.

Just got the wheels back on, 2 were not seated out aganist the rims.

How much tire pressure would you run on a hard but grassy field?

With low pressure it would slide around real easy just rolling down a slope, then pumped the tires up to 30psi and it would tear up the grass with more traction. The rims state like 2 bar (29psi) max but the tires state way more. I'm thinking about 20psi for a good smooth ride.

I gota say if the wind ever blows again, this will be some kind of fun.

20 is a good compromise between ride and speed on midis. More for barrows I imagine. Don't push the 29 or your wheels will explode. I've heard stories about the loud bang it makes.

Thanks bob. I'll get them back down in a few minutes.

Man this thing has got me going, I might just go out and ride it down the hill again tonight.

I know it will take some time to learn to kite with it but time will come.

You guys told me to hold out for a good bug and it paid off, cheeper than the trike. Thanks a million!!!

Angus, the bolts do have the copper looking grease on them, but I might need some in the future as it will be taken apart some for transport. Does hardware stores sell this stuff?

You think the bolts and air pressure is fun. Wait till you come out of a sliding turn and feel the kite pull you at what you think is all you can hold and shoot you back off across the field. I got to do that about 30 times this afternoon. Feel the pull baby.

:wee:

man i bet thats an exciting rush and to get it over and over like that would be too much fun.

it's got to be a pretty big task to get everything to come together like that. the right kite, wind and learned skills.

I'll be glad to get rolling and stay in the bug for starters. May need a seat belt.

I'm sure the first few trips will bring many questions, most are already answered here somewhere.

You will get just as much a thrill by just rolling away by the power of your kite. You will be on a drug like high for 4-6 hours after you first do it and many times after. You watching that thread about the Charleston, SC meet up?

Yea I keep an eye on the meet up's. There was mention of the 23rd, but I have to do Saturdays.

Also looking for anything Aug 2-7 down that way. We'll be camping at Mytrtle. I doubt there's much around Mytrtle beach but its close enough to some of the spots.

hardrock, buggying is just great!! i just started really getting into it and despite getting hurt a couple times i love it--only regret is this grass field is only about 1/4 mile long, so i eat up space pretty fast--im kinda jealous of beamer bob and angus with those huge beaches.......i'm looking for about 5 miles of space--now THAT would be excellent!!

I know the feeling (jealous) LOL. I just got my head bolts for my boat engine, worked on it 12hrs today and it was killing me seeing the wind blow, knowing that bug wanted to go out and play. I don't have an ideal location but I'll make the best of it.

Did you get hurt in your bug? How?

I'm inland in Augusta GA. I go visit a beach once every 6 weeks or so though. My 10 year old spotted a piece of land cleared for a big warehouse or something. He thought it would be perfect and I got to try it out Friday. It is tabletop smooth and worked great with the easterlies we had that day. I'll try it with different wind angles.

Had my first obe today. No damage but learned right quick that Beamer 5m is not to start out with in gust. Yanked me right out and turned the bug over.

I used the Hydra 350 after that and went up some pretty nice hills. Then turned down the hill and hit 100mph. LOL well it seemed it. Had a blast.

Sweet thang had her first obe also. Too funny, was going up the hill real nice like, then lost the wind, the bug rolled backwards back down the hill, she caught the wind and out she went. I caught the bug from landing on her, it was all pretty funny. No hurts.

Couldn't buggy much, the wind was crazy but had a nice 4 hours of flying in unreal heat. Trying to upload a video to put in tricks where everybody was explaining spins.
