Anyone heard of a Phantom Mark 2?

Seems like it has all of the modifications that everyone requested... Dual zipper openings at the end and launch assist.

I was hoping to purchase this and surprise you will my find however looks like the seller doesn't want to be bothered with shipping to the US. So here, I'll let the cat out of the bag.

No.. This guy probably just added his own zippers. It still has the fiberglass spars. It wouldn't be hard to add zippers to your kite. And people have been adding launch assist tabs for a long time. It looks like a modded kite to me.

No, not true... you can enlarge the zipper photo to clearly see that it is marked inflate and launch assist in black ink from the factory. I'm not saying you can't do these mods but this looks factory.

yeah, looks like it could be "factory". Later phantoms models maybe got dual zips as the venom was being designed? I once had a 13 and 15 bomba with no graphics and one piece spars, so those protos do get out in the wild as well. Actually wish I still had them. They were good kites.

This is not a Phantom mark II, it has been modded but not by us.
there is another thread where I ask if it's a good idea to have a successor for the good ol phanny, but were not yet developing.

..... i dont think that kite was modded, i think it was made that way.... i flew my 12m phantom 2 days ago for the first time.... there was one zipper in the middle, no zippers on the ends.... my 15m phantom has a zipper on each end, and no zipper in the middle

it would be feasible to add 2 zippers, but making the one in the middle disappear?? it must have been made without the center zipper at all... makes little difference to me, as with the 12, higher winds are necessary to fly it, so its no biggie getting it inflated with the one center zip, but i could definitely see that being a pain in lighter winds

I had my center inflation zipper moved from the center cell to the first black cell on an end. That way it is a genuine factory zipper but it is much easier to get the kite inflated when you only barely have enough wind to fly. The "repair" of the slot left by the old zipper is visible if you go looking for it, but it is of matching material and symmetrical so no harm. I'm saving my pennies for an 18-19m 2010 Phannie II when they come out hopefully by next spring/summer.

But the marks were found to be merely ornamental. C'mon guys...we can't ignore the hard facts

There are actually a few brand new Phantoms that were purchased after the Venoms came out and they have dual zippers. Ziggy's 9m Phantom is gold and has dual zippers.
When we unpacked it I though it was the wrong size (12's were gold) but it is a 9m. We always assumed it was a VO change on some of the later produced kites to put on the 2 zippers and do some changes on colours. If I recall correctly that was one I ordered for him and would have come from VO not from some second seller but I could be wrong, I'll ask him.
Mark
additional note: I just checked with Ziggy and he confirmed it was one that I sold him so it came from VO

I've gotta get on the Christmas card list to get some of these one-off or generally not available to the public kites. I love having stuff that is different than the masses have. I need to just head over to VO and ask if I can rummage around for a day or two. I'm sure there is all kinds of stuff just sitting in the corner. I've heard Peter's loft has lots of this special proto gear lying around.
