New Guy in Delmarva

Hey everybody,
I got hooked about two months ago and have done most of my flying in the ballfields around town. Just static for now, but looking to get a buggy at some (distant?) point in the future.
I've met a few interesting characters already, but no serious kiters. Reading the boards, it looks like there some Maryland and Delaware guys out there. I'd like to hook up with anybody out there this weekend, next weekend, whenever. Give me a shout.

THANKS FOR THE CULT BRO!

I'm up for getting some guys together if a good spot and wind is available.

I'm NE of Baltimore and there's a few guys in So. DE.
It's just with the crowded beaches and low summer winds, there isn't as much happening (unless you're kite surfing).

Don't forget the NJ buggy bashes that happen near monthly off-season in Wildwood.

Most of the nj buggy club members are sitting around with nothing to do. Im sure some of them would ride with you if you know of good spots. The rest of us usually head for the water. Your welcome to join us if your up for it.

Yes, definitely. An earlier NJ Buggy Bash thread here mentioned a proposed evening run at Wildwood this summer - but I don't see anything at the club site yet!

It would be great to get some of the DE and MD guys together at a convenient locale either at the beach or Eastern Shore - esp. if Todd could bring all his new toys and HD camera along!

Sweet! Another local! If you're ever in the Dover or Delaware beach area, get in touch. I usually fly at least once a week, even if it's just static and i'm usually down at the beach on the weekend, in the Dewey/Seashore Park area. There's a few inland spots that my buddy and I hit when we can get together. Always looking for people to fly with in the area. WELCOME!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention...i've got a Rockville buggy that i'll be selling, as I recently upgraded to a Libre. It's an inexpensive and decent starter bug if you're interested. And even if not, you're more than welcome to give it or my Libre a spin to get some experience under your belt.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of good advice from everybody.

Hey rdavis, I could make it to the beach tomorrow, will you be around?

Rdavis says he's heading to Chincoteague tomorrow.

Maybe you would consider coming over to Todd's Solomon's Island bash Sunday? (maybe you'll get to appear in his next HD movie!) :D

Either way, I will definitely be at the DE beaches a few of these Summer weekends coming up and maybe some of us can then meet up.

Hey Lad, where's Todd's Solomon's Island Bash. Rian called me earlier and say someone showed him a pic on here that Todd and a few others were flying at on Sunday. He told me I should give you or Todd a quick hit on here and see what's up. I guess this is what he was talking about. If it is close and I wouldn't be imposing on anyone I would love to come fly! u2u me if possible.

Thanks Rich

Yep - I stay over at Milford with a non-flying bud a few times a month - usually to check the beaches out.

We're to meet at the

Park Area

just below the Thomas Johnson Memorial Bridge / Rt. 4 / Patuxent Beach Rd. (you can see the area in Todd's Binary Lies video posted here)

Well I just did a map quest and it is a 120 mile 3hr trek for me. I probably won't make it. Not that it wouldn't be worth it. My work hours require me to be asleep early. I wish I could have made some plans to be over there close already. would have been a lot easier. I hope all involved have a blast. Next time I will arrange to come over the day before and catch a campground or something for the night. Hope the winds are high and the rides are long!

no doubt, I was going to go to Chincoteague with him and my other friends. I actually talked to him last night and he said he was getting big air with his sabre 9.5. That thing is a beauty!. It is just way to crowded for me. I don't won't to get all upset when ding dongs keep walking in my flight path. Had some people off season walk right into my lines as I was flying. Couldn't believe they couldn't see the 12 ft wide kite right in front of them. I wish I didn't have such a messed up work schedule. But at least I'm still working, gotta have kite funds.lol Hope all involved today have a blast!

See you soon

Yeah, like everyone is saying, i'm down in Chincoteague, VA for about the next week. After I get back (not sure when, next weekend at the latest) i'll be hitting the Delaware beaches regularly on weekends and would gladly meet up with you.

There is a spot in Smyrna, not excatly northern DE, but more in the middle. Its called Big Oak Park. It is just north of Willis Chevrolet. It is on the east side of Rt !. Not a bad spot for static or buggy. Rdavis and I fly there when the wind is coming from the NW, W sometimes SW if they are good. There is another spot I am checking on at rt 40 and 896. It is called Friends of Glascow. It has a really big space by the tennis courts where it would be great for buggies, boards and statci. There is ample room there, but I am checking on permission. It is a public park, but I am not sure if it is a limited access or not. They have a "board" I am writing an email to. I will post or shoot you an email if you like when I find something out.

If the all clear comes on glascow park, it would be worth the hour drive if the winds are steady. What a huge field!

All those spots are :45-1:30 away from me - I'd show up if the conditions are right. The beaches will be best after the tourists are gone. Too bad some of you DE guys would have to pay the ferry to get to Wildwood - which is ideal.

I must've driven through that intersection a million times and never realized there was a possible kiting field there....course I've only been looking for a few months. I'll be up there Saturday morning on my way to a weekend full of family obligations which will keep me from flying - ughhh.

I sent the email on flying there yesterday. I am patiently (yeah right) awaiting an answer. Snobdr, you can bring whoever, I just ask that we all do our best to respect the others using the park of course. I made sure to put that in my email to them. Don't want to get a black eye. I am surprised frankiter that you have not seen the park, it's almost 2 yrs old now. Right across from the new State Police Hdqtrs. It looks like an awesome place and would hold a dozen static flyers and a handful of buggies at one time as well. If I do not get an answer soon I am going to make an appointment with the person in charge of party reservations for the pavilions to see if they can help me out. I am very happy to see that there are more locals than I thought. Can't wait to fly with everyone!

I so look forward to off season at wildwood. I may not be able to make it there every weekend but I will be making the trek. I now have a camper and will be able to make the trip the day before and stay comfortably. De beaches will be great too. I know Rian is having a blast in Chincoteague right now!

As I mentioned to others, I did see a largish parafoil being flown at the Glasgow park fro rt. 40. The parks site has no working rules link and, since it's still under development, it all may be a work in progress. So maybe an early, friendly approach to them would work. I'm still not so sure what kind of winds to expect there.

I can definitely envision a once-a-month meetup at the DE beaches or Wildwood during the off seasons.
