Any kiters from England?

Just wondering how many of us there are on the boards from England? I'm from Milton Keynes and just started up, but none of my friends are interested in taking up kiting so i'm flying alone at the moment, which isn't really great. I've met a couple of guys down at Gunnersbury Park in London, but i'm only down there once or twice a month.

I'm an English expat living in america the past couple of years, the community in England is HUGEEEEEEEEEE though especially for land kiting...
There are very few friends of mine who have been interested in taking up this sport aside from the friend i took it up with in the first place, i find you just have to meet new people out on the water or the fields rather than rely on your current friends to get interested in something, and more importantly invest in it :D

Good luck! Lots of good kiting to be had in england :)

I just joined, I'm from Barnsley and looking to get my first BIG power kite after re-kindling a passion for it with my little 1.2m HQ 2 line jobbie. Hoping to pick up a Flexifoil Rage 3.5 while on holiday in Florida in November.

Heh, I bought a Rage 3.5 last weekend - it's my first power kite, having flown Stunt kites on and off for years. Didn't expect it to have the power it's got! Already been pulled over once, but that was down to naivety and inexperience. So i'm gonna be a bit more careful in future.

I bought it because I wanted a challenge and a kite that i won't outgrow too quickly... And I think that's what I got!

Thats pretty much the reason I'm after the Rage 3.5. I dont want one too big and dangerous for my second kite kite (first proper power kite), but I don't want to fly it for a month and then need more!

Let me know how you get on with it.

Yeah I am from England, Woking/Surrey but I live in Belgium. Big community in Belgium for kites, always not too far from the beach here.

agree 100% with this.

I hang out with lots of folks at the beach, and lots of them have been curious, but only a couple have progressed beyond the 2-3m level, I find folks either get the bug or they don't... I never try to push it these days.

my dad loves it though!:wee:

Also... you guys in england... all that wind, all those fields, all those beaches, and so many folks to kite with, you're where it's happening!

could be warmer tho, eh?

if racekites (dot com) is still about they're a good online community as well.

not as nice as this one, but close! :P

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...

also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

South Yorkshire, Barnsley. I only ask because I found a group who meet every Thursday at Lodge Moor in Sheffield to fly, or if the weather is no good sit in the pub next to the field and chat. I haven't had chance to go yet, but they seem like a good group on the forum, www.sheffieldkitefliers.co.uk check them out if you think you can make it over. They do other trips too. I'm hoping to get up next Thursday to meet them (I missed the last three Thursdays due to other commitments).

We should try and meet up after xmas if I manage to get the Rage 3.5!

I'm in Scotland - thats in England isn't it ? :)

Nobody much kites where I live but I have just converted someone so thats pretty cool.

There are a few other kite surfers but we don't talk to each other much. water kiters tend to be less sociable than land kiters who seem to all be really friendly. Shame there are only 2 of here!!

Still we are friendly with each other :)

The irony is that the Hebrides are probably the best kiting area in Europe. Consistent strong winds and beaches to catch all wind directions.

Having been to Scotland, I believe the answer to that question depends on who you ask :D.

Since you are still breathing i guess you only asked the right people - or are a fast runner!

Yes, some Scottish people take themselves a little too seriously, but I guess that happens everywhere.
