I know this has nothing to do with kiting, however while flying at my usual area I knoticed a vehicle pull next to mine. I usually do take knotice to people because they are always out there its nothing new. For some reason this couple caught my eye and I knoticed them just walking around looking for something. Finally the go over to a colvert and pick up a small .50cal ammo box. sign a piece of paper and leave. Currious, I land my kite grab my water bottle and head over to the colvert and at first I didnt see it so I started kicking over some wood laying around and there it is the mysterious box. I grab it and open it, andto my suprise there were some very odd stuff, everything from buisness cards to keychains, action figure super ball currency from diffrent countries all in this box and an explination of the box on the lid. I checked the site that was on the lid and there are litteraly thousands of these located around our small town.

Geo caching is way fun I've been doing it for about 8 years. Now even phones have GPS's so it's even easier to do since you don't need to get a dedicated GPS unit. Fun for the whole family, even the young one get into it! There's caches everywhere, probably a few at your local kiting spot :bigok::bigok:

I have been geo caching since Dec. 2006. It is actually a great way to get out and walk around in the woods and loose some weight at the same time. Some are harder than others, and some are just plain out right easy. This is also a good way to find flying spots, a great thing to do on vacation when everything is closed. Also a great way to get the kids out of the house and doing something if you have kids.

The geo cachers (the people that do geo caching) also do a thing called CITO (Cache In Trash Out). This is where when you got out to find a cache and there is trash laying around all over the place around the cache and on the way to it, you pick it up and remove it from the area and to its proper place.

And the only fancy equipment you have to have is a GPS. Something alot of kiters already have laying around. The cheapest gps will work for caching.

See I had no idea about this until today it is pretty interesting might have to get into it a little bit.

I go geo caching with my 10 year old daughter. Great hobby to do together.
Use the iphone with built in gps as well as purpose built programme. Just a good blend of adventure, exercise, mental agility and fun to do

You re-hid the cache right?:bigok: I used to geo-cache till I traded my gps for a trainer kite, now that I buggy I need to get a new gps.

Make a note that you found it with no gps, that should make em laugh.

There's also races run that are akin to orienteering/geocaching. It's the same but different. Geocaching is more fun though because it's so much more random and relaxed. One of my last scrambles took me to the top of Mount Cheviot where I was laying my old cell phone to rest (battery disposed of properly) as a tribute to it never letting me down no mater where I was. Full bars even up there before I powered it off and left it in the geocache tube.

Been doing it for a few years now. Come to think of it . . .. I have a bug I need to get rid of still. . . .

kelly--that is pretty cool!! i'm just now starting into geocaching and i'm sure it will be an adventure and some great fun!!

can someone please fully explain the details of "geo-caching" for the laymen and under-priveleged among us... is it like some hi-tech hide and seek ?

you use a gps device to find a "cache"--the coordinates are given on Geocaching.com--all you have to do is sign up--its free and then use your gps to find the cache of your choosing--i see it as a high tech hiking adventure---once you find the treasure,you usually make a log of it on the website....i cant wait to get started--im heading out to get batteries for the gps now---this will be great for the days the wind isnt blowing......
