Can I use leaderline (1/8 Spectra line) as line extensions?

right

I bought 4 x 5 metre of amsteel spectra 1/8' rope/line. It is super, feather light, rated at 2100 pounds breaking strength and it floats!

Question being, is there any reason why I could not use this to make 5 metre extensions? I'm running a 20metre line (on a Slingshot Ranger 12m) set at the moment but didn't really feel like paying 50+ dollars for line extensions.

Much appreciated.

the drag will slow the rig and may loose a little light wind performance. but adding the line to the leaders from the bar end would get the most from then ext. w/o too much drag. the kite may have a better rate of handling in higer winds maybe even put them at the kite end for high runs . if that's what you got use it

You may want to pick up a sleeve kit ?
The only line I know that doesn't require sleeving is Qline.

Don't believe you need to sleeve amsel. Well let me qualify that. I've yet to sleeve or need to sleeve amstel mainly due to using it as strop line. Haven't used it as main line yet.

Amsteel, Amstel, Amsel ???

These are new to me. I did know it was not just average spectra line.

What is it please ???

It'd make more sense to get the 7/64" Blue Amsteel stuff i got at Redden marine - it's fairly reasonable at 0.16/ft..
Better yet go to one of the dealers here and have some custom q-power leaders made for about $1/ft.

It's just average dyneema line. But that 1/8" line is rated at about 3000lb. No sleeving required. Half inch line has over 27,000 lb strength.

the amsteel spectra line is rated at 2100 pounds...more than enough for any kite application (apart from those pulling ships of course ;) in my opinion. I bought it to use for the Ranger extensions, however, it was so light and versatile, I thought "why not make extensions out of these?"...

I really dont think sleeving is possible/practical on this type of line.

I doubt you could sleeve it and if so, it wouldn't really do any good. Amsteel usually doesn't need to be sleeved at all because of its superior strength. It should be hollow core though, you could splice it nicely which would make sick extension lines. Way overkill though and the wind resistance may be quite a bit more than what you would get from other lines. Q-power would be my choice but if you got it, use it.

Amsteel is a 12-Strand Single Braid, nice and easy to splice.

Splicing Instructions

12-Strand Single Braid - Bury Eye Splice
12-Strand Single Braid - Lock Stitch Splice
12-Strand Single Braid - Brummell Splice

Rope Specs.

Note the spliced strength column, however it doesn't mention what splice that was tested with.

.16 cents a foot yes...but 10 dollars to ship! i got 75 feet for 20 bucks (at .27 a ft). buying local is better if you can get it!

If any one needs some, I'm happy to get you some and ship it. It is so light it wouldnt cost more than a fiver to ship and they have all sorts of spectra and amsteel ropes and lines.

Thanks to all for your insights.
