Lack of North American used power kite trade

It amazes me that the US and Canadaian used power kite trade is so small to that of the UK and Europe. Is it just that there aren't as many power kiters in North America or just that you US/CA kiters hold on to their stuff much longer ?! (not including dedicated kitesurf kites)

Since moving over from England, I have a very hard time procuring used powerkites. It was easy to find used Blades, Twisters, Busters etc. Whereas on places like Kitecrowd, there is a myriad of used gear. On North A forums, there is but a trickle.

Comments welcome!

one kite i don't use much (mint 4.5 Ozone LD i'm original owner) i will not sell because it would only fetch a mere pittance of it's value. i keep it for a trainer/loaner. also it is my very first foil kite.

very small amount of people here doing this sport vs. UK and Europe. We are growing but no where close to what they have going on.

Again what DAKITEZ said is true. The sport is not as big here as other parts of the world.
But I am doing my part as well, www.bigkidkites.com click on SPECIALS, DEMO or CLOSE OUTS

I think it has to do with how popular the racing circuts are in Europe. There are so many teamriders in europe who change there equipment often. That of course floods the market with Race kites. These are purchased by somone trying to get into the racing and they sell their Intermediates which in turn are bought by somone who is steping up from Beginners. It is really amazing how fast kites come onto the used market. I have already seen used Yakuza GT's for sale.
Shipping is not that expensive so if you are looking for good used equipment the european market is the place to look.

If you need a middle man let me know, I'll be happy to help.

Shipping a kite overseas is easier and more affordable than you might think and I'm sure the Euros have their equivalent of our Int'l Priority Mail. Toughest one I've had was a 19m Synergy with bar, lines pads, helmet etc to Saudi Arabia. Size restrictions split it to two boxes and drove it up to like $150 but that is an extreme example.

Shipping overseas can be cheap depending on the freight you use. Normally ups and fedex are out of the question. However some companies have STD sizing and weight for a flat rate like 10kg boxe so you can try to find others looking to buy and stuff as much as you can to equal 10kg. I normally use dhl post, TNT, ems to name a few.

by crappiest service you mean Royal Fail and Parcel Farce right....

yeah, however, given the state of the UK pound at the moment...as I'm earning in US dollar, i'd rather buy "local" and also a lot of Brits would rather not deal abroad.

By the way, I'd like to extend an invitation to anyone coming to Denver/Co springs...I'm co-admin of the Rocky Mountain Kiteboarding Assoc. so I can always show you around the good spots should anyone be in town. ;)

Yeah, they're the two idiots I'm talking about. No wonder the Poms don't want to sell overseas if they gotta put with the crap that the post office dumps on them! And to think - they were responsible for inventing the 'modern' postal system
And there are plenty of Americans who don't want to ship overseas either ... I've often got the "Sorry it's too far to send it to Japan" line - it's the same distance from the sellers house to the post office eh ... I don't get it :shocked2:

Don't want to use DHL out of Germany, It will take at least 4 to 5 weeks for delivery. The cost was OK but there was no tracking the package till it showed up at the door.
