funjunk status end of summer 09 (GI patrol reveiw)
well the ATB mbs core 16 is done got a few last rides last week though completely blown out trucks/bearings /wheels/tires . the deck blow out and
went completely soft after a show boat air friday.
beyond repair in every direction
and the coyotes couple sessions ..and couple flats,,
so out of the 6 wheels on the OME set up i 'm only running 4. and this definitely increases the flat tires. every four wheel skate session ended
with a flat.
and i will take pics with tire wear, carnage blah, blah
MBS served me well
looks like a GI board coming around the corner

looks like a GI patrol 106 in the works, it was my original 1st pick but fleabay bargain distracted me. at the time it was $160 or $400. and
didn't have a clue about much of any thing except the difference between a tool or a toy. that i could tell, but 160 seemed like a no brainer try it
kinda moment,

Yeah, that's why I've got the cheap MBS Atom 95 at the moment. I figured it was good enough to see if I enjoyed it.

A good way to prevent your deck from "blowing out" is to stay out of moisture. Water kills the woods integrity.
Try not stomping your tricks so hard also.
Stay out of the surf, its tempting but dont do it! haha unless you totally disassemble and water proof every part then dont.
skateboarding for eight plus years and going through hundreds of skateboard decks one thing i learned is water will kill your equipment.
Just while im on the topic, pack your bearings with marine grade grease and they will last a lifetime. the out side will still rust some, but the ball
bearings and ball holders will not be damaged what so ever.
paint thinner or wd-40 to degrease
and
then re-grease after 10 or so sessions at the beach. (be sure to totally pack the bearing with marine grease.)

i will admitt these plastics channels even with out the bearings are tough. virtually unbreakable
and yes that is the custom float truck attachment system using the "wire limiter "and "rust lock" features found only on real redneck hard ware

i remember how fast i thought the MBS was when i first got it
very smooth very stable in general quite loose but controlable to about 35-40mph
this board had a Ka'billion jumps,,huge ,,small ,, fast and after about the first 3-4mths small tidal pools without a thought . ate about 6-8sets of
bearings.. lost count
the trucks turned to garbage in about 6mths but still held for insane jumps at furious speeds and a ton of high wind sessions. one tire absent from
complete wear through
so i ran the trucks blown out for a year and actually "wired them in" so the springs would not pop out felt totally secured with it
and the "bolt on axle" never gave one bit of trouble a few pics in the ATB gallery have it visible on a jump. never ever thought about it
all for $160 if i had taken better care i'm sure it could be in better shape but time and pressure got it. the deck went soft so it is over

THE GI PATROL 106
man size deck, THICK, not that wide
at first squirrely stiff... but around 20min hammering the torsion cubes with jumps and turns they mello'd nicely and i settled into the feel, nice
light feel quick for the switch , very easy through the air and the edge /rail right there no mystery both heel and toesides. plenty of edge to power
up and pop ...that"s for a 200ilbs. rider folks.
super nice straps (too nice for me ) the fabric stuff will turn to crap ..i'm challenged with the ratchet thingy. easy in, easy out, really left it
alone
trucks ... time will tell , seems tough, the few moving parts certainly gets my approval
the size works for my longer legs and weight , very light board for its size, lighter than the core 16
the vegas rims seem "thin" but all feels solid
glad to have fresh goods thanks ELI for the hook up
very nice

oh forgot to mention.
got as GI sherpa bag in the exchange
my relationships with bags and accessory stuff is poor since i'm a minimalist.
the bag is full on nice, super tuff, at best it will work out with the bike in sessions it will see more kiteboard than land board if it will fit
somehow in or on .
with the reflective inside it keeps things oven fresh.
KJ thanks for the hero status still waiting on my special power to get my SUPER hero tag. but for now i enjoy crashing with the best of them, eating
gear like candy and hearing the lamentations from the women .

Phree, I am so jealous of the time you get in on your rides! The pics of the board are classic. With absolutely no wind down in S.Fla I am only
vicariously living through your stories till Season starts. Keep the stoke!

Phree your gear goes WAY past well used. You actually rode it with no bearings or nut on the trucks? You won't know what to think with new gear and
all the hardware working. Even poor college students wouldn't push their gear that far before considering it "worn out". You just seem to appreciate
things with a little patina after getting broken in a little. Loved the hose clamp axle mod. Glad you have some proper gear to match your time spent
and skills acquired.

well seasoned , shows the love
it prepares it for the harvest ..the harvest of parts
broken, bent and tattered
if anything i can definitely, with a high degree of certainty, identify recreational goods beyond repair.
when next day air is just too late for today,
Taking the feild repair to permanet til it's all gone
oh yeah, just hogged 3rd session in a row despite a pad pullout and broken line because they were fixed TODAY
