HELP! I can only jump if I run to the left, not the right.

If i run to the right and try to jump, i dont know why but i just get all discombobulated and cant do it. I know its just the opposite of doing it to the left and ive tried so many time i just cant jump comfortably....

its annoying because depending on how the wind is that day you can get better jumps on a particular side.

Any tips or is it to just practice more? I kite with my mate and he has no problem either way.

everybody has a predilection to a certain side or direction. Force yourself to practice on your "bad" side and it will come together

very true... then it gets complicated... nowadays I jump best for height to the right, and best for drift to the left. still can't figure out why:puzzled:

also you could try paying really close attention to the angle at which you run back from the wind, you might be doing it differently on the right, or timing it oddly??? Or do you do your turn for lift differently on each side?

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

I try to mirror image it from left to right... it could be my timing if the change of direction but i also find my body facing slightly the wrong way lol... ill keep practicing tho!

yeah, keep practicing!

also work on flying your kite without looking at it, work at it progressively starting with whenever you're resting between jumps, then when you're feeling the wind in the power zone figuring out how best to set up your jumps, then when you're setting up for the jumps, then finally while you jump... Gives you in the end a lot more confidence in your landings and also helps you redirect more actively.

its all about forcing yourself to jump on your weaker side. it will get better but at the beginning it will feel so wrong.
not any real advice. just practise. you seem to be able to jump ok so it'll eventually click.

I've noticed that too, and I'm not really trying to jump, just sort of spazzing around. It's the same on the bike too - I corner and feel comfortable in left handers, but not right ... weird.
Mind you when I started kiteboarding I couldn't ride 'backwards' - compared to my stance and preferred forwards direction on skate- and snowboards - and yet now it feels almost as natural as regular. Weirdest thing is, on the kitesurfboard I go 'backwards' like a bloody rocket but can't hardly ride to my natural side

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

My advice would be to leave the pendulum jumping for now and jump from a crouched position. Swing the kite both ways across the window. In fact, just play with the kite in general -- no jumping required. But take the time to mirror your steering input. Starting simpler will be much quicker to build a rhythm.

After jumping from the crouched position with the kite moving from right to left, introduce a step or two to the right. You'll be running to the right in no time.

Enjoy!
