Remember me??
I can not believe I have not been on this forum since July 1st!!!
Looks like alot of new names but I still see some "old friends"
If anyone cares, I kind of lost interest/got lost from kiting. I had my boat sink on the 12th of July and went shopping for a new one which took 2
weeks off my life. The new Seadoo was a diamond in the rough and I spent most of the summer focusing on that project. It was worth it but cost me
dearly in time to fly.
I think I flew twice this summer! The beaches are too crowded down here for day flying and even 8pm was too busy the times I did fly.
Something just was not there- the "thrill" and excitement seemed missing and it was just routine. Not sure what happened but I wish it did not happen.
I use to love to fly and took every chance i could to do so. Strange huh?
Last night I was in my basement and my poor buggy was just sitting there looking very sad and neglected. Still I can not come to sell it.
Now that the tourists are gone and my kids are in school I can try to fly dayside again and see if I can get this thing going again.
Anyone else go through this funky faze? If so what got you going again?

Welcome back, beachrights.... I moved to Houston in march, and as soon as i got here, I went through a bit of a funk about kiting.... i think the
thing that got me back into it was the introduction of starting jumping on my atb.... really i think it was just the idea of progressing at all...
is there any aspect of kitinjg that you feel you can go further into? speed barriers you want to break? get into freestyle buggying? try executing a
360 in your buggy next time you go out???
i think once i found an aspect of kiting that i wanted to get better at, thats when the love/ obsession came back....
maybe try landboarding? i dont know.... but i think if you look for a reason to get back into it,, you will find one

Welcome Back Beachrights! I did actually notice you were missing. :bird: I went out to the Cape quite a bit this summer. I don't know where on the
Cape you are. But always kept an eye open as i drove by the beaches here and there.
At the Begining of the summer my boss told me he saw someone out on a Buggy in Dennis. could of been you :dunno:
I been a little bored too...I think it's just the aggravation of summer winds and forcasts telling you one thing and getting to the spot and no wind
or little wind. I can't remember the last time the wind was more than 12mph with my schedule permitting me to go out.
tomorrow should be perfect 15mph forcast....can't wait , i will get more than 3ft off the ground this time. :wee:

Welcome back beachrights!
I feel like the face of PKF has changed alot in the last year. Many names have just dropped out without a goodbye. Look at the member list sorted by
post count and notice the names at the top that haven't been on here in months or longer. You can always count on change. I like reading old posts
sometimes to get that glimmer from my first year here.
I'm really sick with this. On days I get to kite, I never get out all the kites I wanted, or do all the things I wanted. I always feel like I missed
something when I realize I have to start packing up. I guess it will happen to me someday but I haven't felt it yet. Right now, I don't have a beach
trip on the calendar and that bothers me. I was talking to my local buddy pokitetrash and we were jonesing for the fall and winter winds we usually
get around here. I'm always looking for a chance to kite. My youngest son even got a sparkle in his eye this evening when he saw the 2 new kite bags
beside me at baseball practice and I told him I got 2 new kites for him to try. "Can we go tomorrow?" Makes a father proud.

bring the wind, and the buzz will return....
my post-typhoon winds were finally flyable today at a time when I could slide out of work... 10-15 mph with an ace 8, onshore on a beach with smooth
soft sand untouched since the typhoon.
summer winds suck.
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

Welcome back.
To keep myself interested in kiting, I keep switching what I'm doing. During winter, I'm looking for snow so I can snowkite. During Spring and Fall,
I'm trying to arrange buggy trips to good beaches (Wildwood). This summer I learned how to Kitesurf. Now we have the Wildwood Buggy Bash in two weeks
and I cannot wait to go. Actually been debating what I'm going to do this weekend... do I head to wildwood to teach a friend how to fly a kite and
possibly ride a buggy, or look for a good spot to kitesurf... Hmm...

Don't feel bad, I haven't had a kite in the air since May. I bought an old house this summer and have been way to busy with fun stuff like lawn
mowing and painting to fly. Plus the beaches are packed and summer winds are low. Maybe I'll get out this afternoon and finally try out my new
Hydra.
Beachrights did you get a new Seadoo jet boat? I'd love to find out more about it since it sounds like you know your boats. I have a shared beach at
my lake and I'm really interested in getting a used Seadoo boat, but I don't know anything about boats and whether jetboats are any good. My goal is
to get something small an economical, but just big enough that I can learn to wakeboard behind it.

Joy comes from the journey, not the arrival. In terms of kiting, if you're not pushing into new areas of the sport, or learning new things, you'll
quickly find yourself at a dead end. Sadly, the same thing will happen with your new boat too. We all adapt, even to the massive adrenaline dose
that kiting sports can give you.
Kiting provides many of us with a nice long, couple year journey. At the end of it, we all start to feel like we've "been there, done that". Kiting
is a tough, and frustrating sport. Bad winds, beach crowds, access issues, grouchy 'experts', and 'dangerous' newbies all contribute to faster
burn-out. Someone on another forum said "I used to think kiting was cool, now I feel like a jet skier on puppet strings." I think the public, after
their initial buzz upon exposure to the sport, feels the same way about kiters.
Travel to new spots, new tricks, and new kiting sports (snow, water, land) only keep the buzz going for a short time. A couple years ago, I dreamed
of doing a back loop, it was great learning and mastering the trick, but let's just say, the thrill is gone now. Currently I'm working on a couple
new moves (front loop transition, crail grab). One thing I know, once I master them, they won't be as exciting as they are now.
As the veteran of several sport burn-outs (road cycling, rock climbing, snow boarding), I've found this book interesting.

i had some kite doldrums during the summer, but now that the fall winds are back---im ready to rock--i love it!!! i do think that changing kiiting
activities tends to keep me fresh--switching from jumping to buggying to skiing to scudding etc etc.........

Thanks for the book recommendation, william_rx7. I've recently been realizing that my happiness and comfort are in direct competition. And in our
society, it is easy to confuse the two. Also, there is only one of those that money can buy. Well... that and kites! ;-)

"Joy comes from the journey, not the arrival" - Are you sure that wasn't Ferris Bueller who said that?? Or was it Ed Rooney?!
William- you are spot on! And If I do say so are a very good writer and you summarized my thoughts into one paragraph. Thats exactly how I feel.
Everyone's posts made me try to get back into flying today. I went back to my hot spot but the winds sucked! Very gusty and blowing offshore into a
lumpy mess. I decided to not fly beacuse I hate the wind out of the north and did not want to get even more discouraged!
Hopefully tomorrow evening I will try again. I think I will go check to see if there is any air in my buggies tires!
Thanks to everyone for their support!

Hey Beach, summer kiting in New England isn't fun - too many people and poor wind. Like KiteNH I haven't been out riding since May but I did a lot
of buying and selling over the summer and that has kept me interested. Sometimes a break is good but as the seasons change and the temps drop and you
can't use that seadoo any more, the conditions should be great for kiting. You can always come up North a bit. Sometimes just connecting with other
locals keeps the stoke going.

DG- Are you stalking me??!!:o
If i knew you were coming to town we could have met. Ironically, I went to Mayflower beach in Dennis. Originally I went there with my kids for a walk.
I have not gone there all summer and when we got there it was low tide. Soooo... I grabbed my 4 and 5 meter and we hit the beach. The kids ran around
and I flew for 1/2 hour. felt good too! Not enough wind to jump but enough to skud. Sort of. Winds were out of the north onshore-perfect for the
buggy!
Craigville is only 4 minutes from my house so thats why it is "homebase" Still finding too many people to fly during the day but the colder winds will
scare them away soon. Plus the wind shifts to out of the west and go lengthwise along the beach. The beach itself is medium size but when no one is on
the sand and only in their cars watching me it is my "stage"

Hey beachrights, I've been thru the same thing but for me it's just no wind. It kind of leaves the thoughts of getting to fly dry for me.
Worried about the job holding up has pushed me into buying a new welder that should be here tomorrow. Once I get it set up I'll be looking towards the
sky again.
I still drop in here and see whats going on but nothing like I did when there was wind. Maybe I'm more of a seasonal kiter.
