These are the 3 kites I fly the most.

HQ Beamer TSR 1.8m
HQ Beamer II 3.6m
HQ Beamer IV 3m

I weigh in at 195 lbs. and the Beamer 3m will get me moving in the buggy on grass in about 10 mph winds. Don't expect to break any speed records but she will move you around. In 20 mph winds I use the Beamer 1.8m in the buggy (again no land speed records broken).

The other guys can tell you more on this one as I am still learning this stuff myself.

I have a 2 meter Beamer that I use when the wind is nukin.
I find it a very stable kite and absorbs gust pretty good but just doesn't have the speed I crave.
I think its all a learning curve.
The more you fly, the better you get and so does the equipment (faster kites)

The Beamers are great for learning the basics of buggying. They are very forgiving, and the build quality is outstanding. I've owned a 1.4, 3, and 5m Beamer IV. The only con I have for these is their upwind abilty. At first I thought it was me, however after a trip to Sunset beach so Jellis could install my new drop down stem he took my buggy and my 5m Beamer out for a spin. He made some great down wind speed, however he was working the kite really hard to get back up wind. Winds that day were NW at 10 I believe.

All in all the Beamer line is great. Every post I have read so far here about the Beamer line has been positive.

Going out on a limb here, but I think they are possibly the best selling entry level kite for buggying.

I was using my Beamer III 3m the day I figured out buggying and started linking turns. The wind was 14-17 mph. It is very stable and since it was small but well powered, I could correct mistakes of kite position very fast. It is a great kite to learn the buggy with. My III did have lots of side pull, but that comes with the stable low AR design. I haven't had winds to fly my new 2m yet, so can't comment on how the mk IVs have improved.

The Beamer seems like the most recommended starter kite out.
It is a gentle, forgiving kite with a decent pull. Bomb proof construction. Perfect for getting started.
It then works well as you high wind engine. Those same things make it a good kite for those conditions.
I have always thought the 5m Beamer is a bit of overkill but some people like them ?

Here's the 2m Beamer IV in action: http://www.vimeo.com/6409118 The 4m is slower, with something like 3 times the pull. Not too bad in gusty conditions, though it will occasionally luff and fall behind you a bit, if it does make sure you turn a little bit towards it in case it powers up suddenly. The 4m has got heaps of power for buggying. It's probably the kite I fly most from the buggy. I use the smaller ones when the wind gets over 30-35km/hr.

I started with a beamer III 5m, and loved it. Picked up a 3m as well, and I used the heck out of those kites. Great buggy engines. Even had a day with 25+ using a 2m beamer. Absolute blast. Very good kites for using in the buggy. :)
