The week after SOBB
Hit the Beach today in Newport for some solo buggy time.
Winds NNW at 6-10, tide moveing out.
Set up my 5m RM with a new line set (broke a new line set for it at SOBB on the last day!), and a set of handles my local shop wanted me to demo.
Less the one minute of flying and the right power line pig tail seperated from the handle. Reset with go to handles. Lauch, have a seat. Buggy
barely moving. What looked like hard pack was tidal sand. Leaving 3 inch tracks with bigfoots.
RM back in bag, pull out 8.3m PL Reactor (from BeamerBob). Launch, and left wing tip folds, no altitude. Mess around with bridals and just about
every combination of shorten power lines/brake lines, etc, etc. Still left wing tip tuck. Hmmmm.
Play around with the Reactor for about an hour, while answering the questions from a rather curious public.
Decide to pack it in with a total of (no laughing now) 50 yards of travel, and 2 hours of hardware and kite tweaking.
Had fun none the less. Public enjoyed my head scratching demo I gave them.
Anyway like we've all said before. A bad day buggying, is better then a good day at work.

The only trouble I ever had with that kite was when a line would snag around something on the bridle. It can be hard to spot unless you are looking
for it. The last time I flew it was with Acampbell at St. Augustine. It wouldn't pull me then we got out the 10.8 for awhile. Afterwards the wind
picked up a little and the 8.3 was perfect. Keep me posted.

tWas 95F and 95% humidity today (cooler than the rest of summer) with a light breeze from the East, South and West. Top wind speed of about 10 mph
dropping to 0. I buggied only because we had a schduled fly.
I battled with the RM+10 which got the job done, but a battle it was. Two hours here was equivalent exercise to 2days of SOBB, but less than 5% of the
milage.
ahh... the days of SOBB. Have to wait another year.

Yes indeed! Life is pretty good here. Pretty consistent winds... Relatively few people... Nice hardpack... Big wide open spaces... and it's ALL
MINE!!!........Uh.....OURS!!!
For those of you who aren't aware, here in Oregon, 100% of the coastline PUBLICLY OWNED!!! No private beaches! No fenced off areas! It's part of
our State Constitution. (Yes I know it's an extremely Liberal minded law... Practically "Socialistic". But I like knowing that some big developer
can't just someday buy up some big swath of a beach that I love, and fence it off!)
Add that to the fact that we (North coast kitebuggiers - Sunset Beach area) have a pretty good relationship with both the general public, and Law
enforcement (Oregon State Patrol has jurisdiction on the beach) and this area is a kiters paradise!
Yes, I know... I rains!!... Alot!! But that's what keeps the crowds down, so even THAT'S good!
Right now however, It's almost October, and all this week calls for temps. in the high 70's to 80's There's a brisk 15 kts. east wind (changing to
S.W. by Wed.) and it's low tide.
Oh ya... And I work nights... My kids are in school... I have every day free NEENER!! NEENER!! NEENER!! :P :P :P :wee: :wee: :wee:

Bucky, that is the best "rub their nose in it" I have ever read but a lot of people probably don't like you now . 'Corse now the Canadians will invade and AWOC will post a "yeah but we
have Ivanpah (among others)" reply.
Aim low. Reach your goals, and avoid disappointment.

Wish I could try the dry lakebed thing! Never have done it before. The thought of being able to go in any direction without hitting dunes or
ocean... Thats cool!

The trick is... Work only 5 hours at night... Oh... and learn to substitute coffee for sleep. If you can manage that, you are on your way to
carefree (but jittery) days! :wee: :wee: :wee:
