Scout 4m or 5m?
Hello everyone im new here and this is my first post so I just wanted to say hello first. Now onto my questions. Im going to be buying a kite for the
first time and have been kinda led in the direction to the scout line of kites. Now I will be using this for snowkiting and am just wondering which
one I should choose. I will be kiting out on the lakes because my house is surrounded by them just to give you guys an idea what I will be kiting on
and i weigh 185 lbs if that plays a factor in it at all. I would like to be able to cruise around the lake at a good speed but also be able to do
little jumps and fly around out there (with time of course haha i know i will have to practice just static flying it for along time)
Thanks to all who respond

This depends on your normal wind - what windspeed do you normally have?

I think if you could use one of these larger sizes, you are a great candidate for a nice depower. Sticking with HQ, the Montana, Apex, or NEO are
your ticket to ride.................. and fly! Just noticed this would be your first kite. You should get the 3m Scout and learn about kite flying.
Then after you get comfortable with that, try out a larger fixed bridle kite in around the 5m range. Don't rush the skiing boarding stuff while you
are still learning about how to fly the kite though. With that experience, you could safely be in a depower and cruising across the frozen tundra
before the spring thaw.

I don't snow kite (yet) but I do use my 4m Scout with a landboard. Just to let you know that in 20 knot winds it can easily lift me off the ground
which is ok if expected but can be scary if not.

IMHO the difference between 4 & 5 is negligible ... the thing I HAVE noticed is that the 4m I have is faster through the air, so it generates a
lot of power that way but tends to be less stable and more twitchy is it's power delivery. That's a totally subjective opinion though ...
I'd keep the 4m you have and get a depower foil instead :D
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

//he doesn't have a kite yet, kami...//
agree with BB get your skills first on something small, then after the skills buy the kite that gets you moving on skis. The first kite teaches far
more about what second kite to get than any amount of forum lurking and research! agree also that HQ is a good range to go with for future
development...
good to hear you're getting into the sport, have fun out there when it blows!
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....
sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...

Must be the meds
Deffo 5m then my theory being that you'll more than likely have light winds to
test & learn in than gravy days ... well around here anyway
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

For now anyway
