Airfield?
So there is a town about 15 mins west of here, and they have an airport that has been out of service for years... i know that from time to time this
airfield hosts rc airplane shows, and the occasional motocross event, any pointers for getting this set up as a kite spot?

It might have been owned by the govt. talk to the town hall or some rep from there to see if you can...
Unless it was a private airport, but wow, an airport to kite around it would be very nice...

its still the city's, i got a hold of the city administrator and he said he will run it by the city council... he said with all the other stuff that
goes on out there, so long as im not in anyone's way (and not in the line of fire... lol a target range is aparrently at one end) i should be fine...
Fingers crossed, hopefully the city of Mitchell Nebraska doesnt have a grudge against kites...
This would be a sweet deal considering about 30 soccer goals just went up at my usual flying spot...

Ya there are two small running airports around here that I have permission to fly at. They have some old runways they don't use anymore. These are
sweet spots to fly at.
When i was talking to them about it they were kinda excited to see me fly.

I wonder what it would take to have soccer goals removed from a park, or at least take them down in the winter to allow snow kiting.
Imagine, if we left our 30 pumped up kites in the middle of a public park for months at a time, creating a hazard for other park users. They'd lock
us up and throw away the key.
I know it'll never happen, but a tax payer can dream.

my tow rope.
my truck.
400+ miles on one tank of gas.
I have my doubts that would go over too well, but it'd still be fun!
They usually take 'em down once the fall season is over... they go back up in the spring, then get packed up again in the summer...

I gotta say I've had the good fortune to be able to use a private airfield, and when the wind is right it can be downright crazy! Imagine cranking up
to 20+ mph in two or three sine's of the 2M beamer, then park it and go 2500' on asphalt only 3" from a rash! The owner has stopped to watch me,
always shaking his head when I go whizzing by, and he does crop dusting for a living, diving in and out of tight acreages in a light plane. Was
thinking of doing something nice for him, I think kamikuza suggested a case of his favorite beverage, but not sure what it is, or if appropriate for
a pilot. Was thinking along the lines of a weather station he could feed to his website, maybe eventually with a camera feed, if something along
those lines is available that will not break the kite budget!
