Yeah, it's overcast and the wind is blowin', but I was informed at 9:00pm last night that my services would be needed at work this afternoon, so no kiting for me today.:sniff: Oh well, the O.T. will come in handy at WBB!

Got out to Southwick yesterday with winds 25-30 right off the water! I tried to launch the 2.4M NPW, but got a bridle caught on a knot and spun the kite into one heck of a mess, so I launched the 1.4M Beamer and buggied for about 2 hrs., up and down the beach at about 20mph, (the sand at the edge of the water had an unusual 'stickyness', so I had to ride a little higher on the soft stuff) before the wind shifted NW and dropped off to about 15, I switched to the 3.5M Imp, and practiced working upwind in short looping runs, then screamin back to the south! A fun day of "hookie" from work!

This afternoon looks good at Southwick, with WSW wind at 20-25. Mostly sunny, 62 deg. F. I hope to be there by 2 pm for a pre-Wildwood tune-up!

Excellent Wildwood warmup today at Southwick. Wind stayed mostly from the SW, so the fast run was to the north, and I had to work it to get to the south. I took out both the 3.5M Imp, and the 4.8M NPW5, both on 20M lines, and switched back and forth between them. The Imp was somewhat underpowered, upwind was attainable, but a chore with many switches to gain speed, but the NPW, though pulling like a truck to the side, would make it upwind further before having to turn back as often. Before the last run of the day, I folded up the Imp, and put it away, which was probably a good move, 'cuz this is what happened next. I took a nice long run to the N, past the State Park, and on to "private beach". I got about 1/2 mile past the "line", and the wind died! Now,this put me about 3/4 mile from my set-up spot, which was just past the beach front camping area. I folded up the kite, and since I didn't have my walk of shame rope with me, grabbed a foot peg and headed back towards my set up. As I was walking, I could see my set up spot, and a group of people came out of the camping area onto the beach, stopping right in front of my set-up. I could see as they looked first north, towards me, then south, then toward my pile of gear on the edge of the dunes. I was about 1/2 mile away at this point. They looked toward me walking one more time, then turned and walked to the south, towards the boardwalk that goes over the dunes, which they reached at about the same time as I reached my set up. I looked around and all was there, except for the kite stake that I had left out in front of my set up.

Part 2- I looked all over for that stake, I found the hole in the sand where it had been, and around it there were many 'stab' marks into the sand, and footprints that weren't mine. Adult and child footprints. I looked to the south where the group of people had gone, and they were now headed back, and sure enough, I could see a small boy, maybe 5 yrs old, jumping around, stabbing something into the sand. By now I'm getting kind of steamed, because the parents/guardians of this child obviously know he has something that does not belong to him, and likely belongs to the owner of the pile of gear they saw (with another sheathed kitestake right on top of the pile) prolly the guy pulling the funny cart they stopped to look at. So I waited for them to get close, and asked if they always allowed their child to take things that don't belong to them? Their answer was "No one was around, and it looked like a piece of trash, sticking in the sand like that. I actually had to ask for the "piece of trash" back! And they wanted proof that it was mine! I had to show them the other stake, and the empty sheath as proof! I said to them,"What is this world coming to when a parent allows a child to take something that does not belong to them, then asks for proof of ownership?" Their reply was along the lines of "you shouldn't leave your things unguarded, and he thought it was just trash" Sorry for the rant, but the nerve of some people!

To further your rant Bob, what parent would let their 5 year old play with a kite stake anyway:puzzled: Can't figure that one out all by itself!

Sorry to hear that Bob, I had an adult do the very same thing to me in my field. He didn't think I saw him do it but when I came sliding up to him real quick he must of knew the jig was up. He simply asked If it was mine.

Still buzzin' from a 4 hour buggy session at Southwick today. Wind was W @ 15 - g25, used my 3.5M Imp mostly, though the wind died down for a bit, so I pulled out the 4.8M NPW, and of course the wind picked up again, so the beast was trying to pull my arms off! Switched back to the 3.5M for the rest of the session. It's so satisfying to look at the beach covered with buggy tracks at the end of the day, and know they are all mine!:wee:

We made it out to Southwick yesterday. I met ss, and son around noon, weather was fair, about 29 deg. F, wind started out NW and worked it's way to SW by the end of the day. ss has a new home built buggy, his best so far, I think. Unfortunately, I thought my extra battery pack for my camera was in my jacket and it wasn't, so I didn't manage to get any vid or pics. It was cold, but a fun time, we managed some good runs along the beach, and I managed to tree my 4.8M NPW twice, with no major damage. Morgan got some runs across the parking lot on the KGB, with a 2.8M Viper (I think), up and coming talent there! There are still sandsicles frozen to the splash guard of my buggy! Fun day!

I still keep thinking about how could we clear the beach of drift wood though it does add to the excitement and challange. It was a great day , I'm still smiling and the whole neighborhood gang has checked out KGB. I can see putting a wet suit on and doing some high speed runs right at the waterline befor the park gets busy , yee haa!

Still snow on Mt Washington and ice in the Adirondacks. I plan on visiting Piseco lake in the southern Adirondacks tomorrow and maybe sunday , there are still ice fishermen on the lake. Now that I've got a smart phone and know how to use some of it , I can at least report conditions on site.

Piseco lake 2' of ice and 3' of snow on the ground , what a difference a 2 hour drive makes! The surface was good but the winds went back and forth from zero to lofting . I was using the big Viper and was reminded how much I like my depowers in gusty winds.
If all goes well I should make it to Southwick late afternoon 4pm ish.
