ozone samurai ?
Hi, Im new to kiting, been flying my mates 4.9 and 6.9 blade a bit at the weekends, starting to get the hang of it. Im geting my first kite and am
really keen to learn it well then get a landboard a month or so after and get into landbaording with it.
Later in the year or next year want to progress to kitesurfing. Also maybe snowboarding on holidays somtimes. I hope that if i get good at the
landboarding then the skills will translate. I live in london so the sea and snow arnt as acessable as good old grass !
Anyway, question is this, do you think a samuri 5m would be a good kite to get started on with a view to doing the landboarding in a month or so ? Ive
heard its very stable but an excelent kite. Im just begining but want to get really stuck in so am quite serious about it all !
thanks guys,
Erol

Hey there Erol,
Welcome to a really good addiction.
I think that would be a great choice for a first power kite, good wind range and not to powerfull to learn the skills properly. Sounds like your
friends probably can help you out with the tricks of the trade.
I started with the 4.5 little devil from ozone and still fly it lots, just make sure you start out in really mild conditions, you know, not gusty or
strong and with plenty of room downwind at all times, just in case something goes wrong.
Before you get a board, buy some crash pads, I made the "wheels of doom", took lots of skin off my forearms and then bought the pads. Trust me, Pads
are GOOD!
As for boards my two favorites are the "dirtsurfer" and although I`ve never seen one up close, I like the design concept of "flexboardz". Both of
these boards allow high speeds and no speed wobbles.
In the "saving money and maximizing fun dept." the "wheels of doom" are unbeatable performance and value. Highly reccommended from just about
everyone around this site.
Kite and board skills apply pretty much across the board(no pun intended).
Just learn how to fly a kite with your eyes closed and you can easily take your skills to another area of kiting.
may all your winds be favourable! your into a good thing with kites.

hey surfin smiley, thanks for that, i am excited about all this. Im Just turned 40 at Xmas, but got into fitness last 8 months, and I tell u i feel
fitter at 40 than ive ever felt in my 30's !
I did set myself a challenge to cross about 300 miles or more of snow covered wildnerss (always was a childhood dream) with a kite eventualy with
this. Probably do it for chariety, and maybe film it (ive done some TV work) hoping I might find some people to join me on this forum.
First need to do a bit of practice first me thinks !

I've got a 5 meter Sam and I like it a lot. One thing to cosider is weight. I'm about 100kg. So, if you're very fit and don't weigh close to that,
you might consider something smaller.
