*** names on EBAY Who are they ?

I notice Jonesband1998 has had a number of bids on his knock off Montana. Every bid is a ?***? name.

I have wondered fo a long time who all these *** people are on Ebay. Are they bid bots or something ? The site seems flooded with them ? Why do you almost never see a seller named ?***? :puzzled:

They did that to hide the identity of the bidders.

Yeah - sometimes you get to see them, sometimes not. Kinda annoys me when you can't see it. Actually, I think there was a kite that I inadvertently bid against a PKFer on there once. It was all good in the end but man - we coulda unnecessarily hosed eachother ; )

EBay went a little overboard with the whole PC/paranoia thing.

Usually you can't see the names until you bid on the item, then I think they become visible....like if you look at the bid history.

i remember when i bid on my andromeda a6 synth last year and i had a lovely price right around 1800 with not much time left--then all of a sudden this idiot starts upping the price with all these bids--still, i got it brand new for 2100 and its a 3500 dollar synth,so its all good and worth every penny---back on topic--i wonder who these people are? it would be great if we could warn them somehow.......

you can setup multi accounts and actually fake your own bids to drive the price up

people do this to avoid the reserve method

also with extra bids on the auction item it looks promising

you're only out the listing fees if no one bids

Ebay CSR also cant tell if someone is using Multi accounts, because you can use the same mailing address over and over again, but only changing your email address. Obviously Ebay doesnt care, they just look at the $$$ they make and you're not selling human body parts you're okay in their eyes. Ebay is a joke, and they let people get use it for jokes too like selling BC Ferries Fast Kats. it took them 4 days to bring it down.

I must confess I'm one of those auction "snipers". I decide on a price that I'm willing to pay and then when there are 2 minutes left in the auction I enter it. That way I don't get caught up in the moment and keep upping my bid by $5 everyday ultimately spending more than I had originally allowed myself to spend. I miss out on quite a few auctions but do win a few.

The added bonus is that your bid CAN'T be overbid 'cuz there just isn't enough time. If you put your first bid in right at the beginning, other bidders can and will overbid you. So what do you do? You go up your bid again and so on. It's kinda the point of eBay actually. I just know I get too caught up in stuff and it's safest for me to commit to a price and hold to it - bidding at the last minute and hoping.

well, i had decided in advance that 2500 would be the highest i would go, so at 2125--i save 375 off of that---and it was brand new with no glitches and program bugs--fortunately it was a later batch and they all came out clean---in contrast to this item, i usually prefer the sniper method, but this was too important to risk losing, so i had to go another way---there def are different tactics.......

Actually, you can only see the first and last letter of their name. At least, thats what I recall when I was bidding on a Speed 2 12m kite that was on E-Bay not too long ago.

I'm the kind of bidder who finds what I want, bids the price I want to spend, then ignores it for the rest of the time. Sometimes I'll go up by a very small amount, but normally I leave it be...
