Hi to all,

I would like to ask a bit of a cheeky question if you don't mind, but first I should introduce myself.

I'm from the UK and have been buggying since 97 and like you guys I like to get out there on the beach or field as often as possible.

Currently ride a Libre S.Truck II with knobbly tires! and own way too many kites as I get far too attached to them to sell.
My local site comprises of several soccer fields in the London suburbs. The winds there can be lumpy and gusty, but I love it, mostly because literary at the end of the field you'll find McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Subway etc, which is great because boy do I like to eat. The beach is about an hour from me and I try to get there for the clean on-shore winds when I can.

I also hope to go along to the NABX in March next year for the first time and I would like to ask you more about that too at a later stage.

I noticed that you do a Pass the Kite thing on here and I'm wondering how it all works. I said a cheeky question at the beginning because I'm currently discussing similar plans as a member of another kite forum over here.

I appreciate any help you can offer me and I wish you all good winds.

welcome to the forum.

pass the kite is simple really. Get a list together of people who want to try the kite. You ship to the first person on the list and then that person ships to the next ... etc .. etc. till it comes back to you.

It's brilliant for sure! It's understood that the kite (or gear or vid or whatever it is) will be returned in the same condition it was received so there's a bit of a leap of faith but if your forum is anything like this one I'm sure you'll get on just fine. We here are a solid bunch and I'd put my trust in most all of us here without a second thought. Sure, you have to judge for yourself but I find the kiters who meet here are lifers and not bout to leave any of us hanging intentionally.

This is how I imagined it to work. Then a few guys posted up, that it was in fact the kite manufactures themselves who passed around the demo kites. This is why I had to make sure.

It really takes a leap of faith for sure. I myself have never damaged any of my own kites. Have you ever had any problems, such as a busted kite and were you expected to repair or replace it ?

Broken, no. Dirty, yes. But I'm referring to my own kites, not a passed kite. If I ever did jump on a pass I'd make sure it stayed clean and safe from harm. The intent is just to try the kite, not really to run it through it's paces and test it's limits.

(That's just my opinion of the pass though....at the end of the day the "you break it, you bought it" rule applies.)

I'm getting some feed back with regards to the "you break it, you bought it" thing. It's got some people a bit fearful here.

You've hit the nail on the head there macboy Sir. Like you say, the emphasis is on a quick try, rather than put it through it's paces and test it to it's absolute limit. Will need to make that clear from the outset.

i have to chime in on the "u break it u buy it" theory.....ive had 3 pass the kites and 2 were sent back in the exact same condition--perfect....the 3rd had broken bridles and wasnt flown in xtreme conditions or even close....in addition--the kite looked like it had really been put through hell before i even flew it---so, i think you have to look at each case individually and decide whether the person really abused the kite or if they were just a victim of circumstance---some pass the kites will be new--some will be slightly used and others may be near the end of their flying time--it varies.......
