Hey Popeye, fantastic tutorial! You definetely have mad skills. How likely is it to weld Chromoly using a MIG welder with flux core wire. I Have no skills with TIG, but can throw down a nice bead with MIG. Any thoughts?

Try 70ERS filler wire, I have very little experience with Chromoly, it is about 1.7 times stronger than Mild, but four times the cost.

TIG is the preferred method as you can control the heat and penetration much easier, you get a much better seam and is far easier to weld thin materials

for chrome-moly you would use 80 series wire. I don't understand this chrome -moly thing, several people have asked about it in the last year. Hope you don't think it's gonna be all shiny and stuff. Cause you'll be pissed off when you get mill scale covered pipe that rusts. I know that it is stronger and more malleable, but stainless is WAY stronger, if that is what your after. Like PTW said ,CrMo pipe is very expensive pipe, cause it is a very specialized material. It has the unique property of being able to expand and contract over and over again for many cycles without failure(as long as it is welded properly) It is used alot in boiler systems and racecar rollcages. But for what we do , mild steel will do just fine.
END OF HIJACK sorry

Thanks guys, I really am not to fussy when it comes to what my buggy is made of. It will just be painted or powder coated since I don't live anywhere near salt water and keep things garaged. If chromoly is that much more expensive then its a dead issue. Sorry for the hijack. Best regards.
