I was wondering from those more experienced what the influence of line length
was on an arc.

as a heavy weight flyer - If I had a synergy 19 in light winds would I use
extensions and if so up to what length is practical. I am just a park and ride
flyer at the moment.

If it was stronger winds and to extend the range of the 19, could i use shorter
lines and if so what is the shortest practical length.

I read somewhere that 3 m extensions equals 1 metre increase in kite size and
the opposite being true.

Is there such a thing as a formula that can be applied?

27m is issued length,

i have run as long as 38m and found 32m to give good control and turn rate . It slows down the kite a little and gives longer power strokes . this was a 16m VI. at time the i was 220 and gave a little more range at the bottom

i prefer 27m on a 13m/10m kite now at 200lbs.

3:1 is close but hard to tell

short lines quicken the turn rate and blunts the power ...never found it usable

I agree with Phree. I've always prefered longer lines on the arc, compared with with other kites are flown on. 27m for the 19 is the shortest, and I have a 32m line set that I sometimes break out. 24m is the shortest I fly the 10 and 12m synergies. I have a 21m set for the 8m, but it has to be really cranking for that. I also fly the 8m on the dry lake bed, but on 25m lines.

do wind conditions determine what line lengths should be used? lets say on one kite 15m, are different line lengths gonna provide better handling in different winds, or are different lengths for different size kites...?:Ange09::Ange09:

generally longer lines provide more power but less turning speed usually for lighter air. for the same kite.

shorter lines lessen the power but speeds up the turn rate and quickness for the same kite in heavier air.

there are lots of different kites all with unique characteristics, line changes are but one aspect of an experienced flier adapting to conditions for a specific kite.

+1 on the 27m

on the Syn 15 / Phanny 15 / Scorp 16, never considered anything longer, however I was thinking shorter for Kite Loops.
