Very interesting activity. But I think maybe I'll try as close to the ground as I can without touching. Because that doesn't count right?
By the way Dean Potter is amazing. But still NUTZ!!

Tried this before. Actually pretty difficult if you have never done it before. It did seem easier the tighter we had the rope...

Google "slackline kit".... everyone and their dog seems to sell it (nothing sadder than a dog trying to support a kibble habit :sniff: ;-)).
If you are looking for a mainstream retailer, check EMS, REI, or your favorite mountaineering/climbing store.

the tubular webbing they use.... is that the cheap furniture movers webbing, or what?
The stuff i can get a hold of is a nylon/polyester cadura blend, i'm wondering if i'll be able to tie it easily enough... and untie easily enough

could a guy use 1" single ply nylon webbing (like a heavy duty tie down strap) between a couple ratchet binders?
something like this
i can get the bulk single ply, 1" wide nylon webbing for almost nothing (100' for like $15) rated at 5000 lb, and we stock the ratchets.
im thinking,
nylon sling around tree, to ratchet binder (has hook, so i wouldnt need carabiners) to whatever length line- to another binder- to another sling
around a tree
Would that fly? at this price i could span 100' (if i wanted to) for like $30

The very high strength needed for the line comes from the angles involved.
I teach high school physics. One demonstration we do is have a 5kg mass hanging in the middle of a length of line, and two students pull on either
end attempting to get the line straight. Can't be done (not just because the students are 9th graders). Then we do the trig to show why.
