Awesome Day!!!

The sun came out again today. Two days of sunshine in a row in Vancouver has been been rare lately. Yesterday, we had sunshine and strong, but gusty wind; today still sunny but the wind was done.
With no wind, what made today awesome? Dirtslide got a new toy. After being told that the risk re-injuring his back was too high in wind powered sports, I went with him to pick up the acceptable alternative today: an I.C.E IceT recumbent trike. Awesome little unit, tadpole design, two wheels in front. After getting back to Richmond, we set off on on the inaugural ride for a coffee in Steveston and a visit at Garry Point. This is only distance of two miles and just about dead flat. What made it really awesome was that Dirtslide made a trip using the power of his legs to get from one place to another for the first time in many months.
It was not a speedy journey. We took three and a half hours to go the distance, (with a few stops). It was inspiring to watch as he pedaled, having to shift to the lowest gears for the slightest incline and peddling through pain that seemed worse than anything I'd seen in my years of randonneuring. His legs are weak but they are moving and today they moved him for the first time. Foching awesome!!!
Something new to do on a day with no wind: triking with Dirtslide.

That is awsome. Nothing better than being able to see a friend overcome adversity.
Unless your the friend overcoming it.
Keep up the biking and being a great friend.

Glad to hear Dirt is up and about. It takes takes time and good friends help that time pass.
The time will come again when your tearing up the field. We will have to share the wind some time.

Keep up the good work.

Nice, another recumbent triker! :bouncy: The I.C.E. trikes are beautiful machines. Excellent choice Dirtslide!

I too ride the three wheeled pedal machine. Mine is a Catrike "Trail". Perhaps we can ride together some time soon, on a windless day.

Dirtslide will just get stronger and stronger riding the 'bent. Its a wonderful way to pedal and Richmond with its relatively flat terrain is the perfect place to get started.

I talked with DS last night. He said his legs had just recovered from our ride. Three days is about what it would take me to recover from a 600km randonnee. Maybe we went a little too far for a first time out.

Man your an awesome friend. Its great that he has such great support to help him with his recovery, really would speed things up for a guy. Good to here that he has found another way to stay active. Would be horrible to have to give up a sport that you love so much. Looked these things up and it looks like a good time. Makes me happy that I have found a group of awesome people like we have here.

I had a few friends like you during my 5 year recovery from brain trauma and other subsequent issues. I can say first hand you are what he needs.
Good job keep it up.

Great News !!!

Keep us updated please !

I'm proud of you Scudley and thrilled for D'sliddy.

I am distracted right now with a friend in ICU. He is struggling to breathe without the machine today.

I think Airin will take me out for some kite therapy this afternoon.

Ken, I do not think I have done anything to be proud of. Spending time with Dirtslide is hardly a burden. What kind of friend would I be, to someone who has done lots stuff for me and with me, if I did not pitch in a little bit extra when the chips were down for him?

Proud may not be the right word but I hope you get my intent .

Airin and I got out today. Her Brother showed up with his recumbant. Looks like Dirtslide has some kite friends riding those crazy machines already!

I hope you got out?
