Radio Show
I have been asked by one of the local Fm stations to come in and do a show on kite skiing. Never did something like this before but going to give it a
try. Anyone have any ideas for this?
I have put up some flyers around asking people if they wanted to give it a try and have had over 60 people drop me a line.(Wow) Definitely going to
need some more trainer kites...lol

Feel free to pick up any of the kites I have for sale as trainers :D. As for ideas for talking on the radio... I'm afraid I don't have any ideas.

Stay away from silent movies or slide shows.
Do they want to do a show about kite skiing, i.e. interview you? Or do they want you to make a program. If it is the former , that is easy they will
ask you questions and you bullshlt about kites.
If it's the latter, you will have to fill the time. Might I suggest asking a few of the folks on here for interviews about why they kite ski. Get
Dennis Le Menace to talk about how huge it is in Quebec and the Ottawa Valley, You know the French forum kitezone.ca has over 22 000 members. Skype
is cheap. Compare kite skiing to downhill and Xcountry. Talk about cost of equipment and compare with price of lift ticket. Talk about what kinds of
people like kite skiing. Most of all talk about where to do it and how hard it is to find good spots and what a good spot is. You might find some
farmer is sympathetic.
Good luck with your show

Well up here good places are easy to find and you basically never have to go to the same place twice. I have never been refused use of any filed or
area around, great friendly people who always enjoy watching.
Yes its a radio spot, so its an interview. Anyone with some good ideas please let me know, little nervous about it but willing to try. Remember i live
in Alberta, we don't recognize anything east of Manitoba...just kidding..lol

For an interview, the interviewer, if he/she is any good, should have questions to keep you talking.

I've done a few interview and articles. You'll probably give an overall description of what people are seeing (keeping in mind most of the radio will
not have seen this before). You can describe both ski and snowbaord use and the appeal of one vs the other. You want to make it sound exciting yet not
restrictive - let people know that it can be whatever want to get out of it. You can go out and do long distance cruising on nice sunny days with
gentle winds and take in the sites or be ripping along at high speed and jumping etc. Try express appeal to anyone and all ages.
Most people will think Charlie Brown kite and just getting dragged where the kite want to go. Let them know the pilot has control so it may not create
ideas of danger or keeping people off property.
Talk safety and dress for the cold (should be a given where you are)
you can do it by yourself or with others - but recommend lessons and help first. Start small, learn the kite first. Talk about just having fun in the
snow learning - it appeals to the whole family, great outdoor activity, gives exercise etc But also address that idea that most people think you need
to be really strong to hold onto the kite.
Talk about your personal pleasures and maybe have a couple of fun anecdotal stories from your own experience. It is Christmas season, keep it on the
fun side and don't talk about people getting slammed around.
man, don't get me started or I'll write a novel ....

Snowkite is so big here that we are trying to find way to discourage people to get into the sport. I am joking.
Preseve OUR spots !!! We've lost some.
Kitezone.ca has today 4945 members but most of them just dont chat much. But there are probably so many snowkiters in the whole province.
It is not uncommon to see +100 snowkiters on a crowdy spot like Mirabel during a winter weekend day. Last winter we just lost that spot because
Provincial Police decided with the city to forbid parking along that farm. Then the farm owner decided to close down the spot
We always chase other spots:: We find a spot, eventually the crowd follows, then at some point the spot shuts down, and we move on to a new spot.
You see the paradigm. They made a movie with that. Aliens come, exterminate our resources and move on to a new planet.
WIISA always come back to Quebec for an event because it so much popular here.
I am thinking moving Alberta to get more space for kiting.
During summer we have to lie about spot shutting down on the Lake Champlain in NY state to preserve them otherwise they get too crowdy and many
kitesurfer don't respect the rules and always put the spot into jeopardy.
In Plattsburgh NY State, on a windy summer day, there can be 50 kiters on the water. Only 2 of them are Americans. All the other come from Quebec.
We've invaded their spot.
Of course when you see 50-100 kites in the air on a farm or lake during the winter, the people passing by just think that it's so beautiful winter
sport and they want to get into it.
I did the same ;-) and we are all entitled.
The kiteshops and kite teachers need to make a living, so more people better it is for the business, and it's all legitimate
But I believe that the growing popularity of snowkite will create a substantial problem around Montreal where more kiters, less
control so accidents and non respect of the rules will make the spots shut down.
For the rest of the province it's still OK because lot of fields and farms.
So Alberta here I am coming !!! eventually ;-)

Encourage your friends and fellow riders to call in so they can engage you in topics you may fail to address because of the stress of the interview.
Plus if they throw you some softballs it should keep you talking about things you know which will keep you comfortable and enthusiastic.

What happened it used say 22000 + members? Was FMC padding his numbers?

Dont know but this is the number we see today. May be FMF runs a business too. I heard he gets about 10-15K of publicity a year with the site.

Wolfee,
I would not sweat having a lot of prepared material. Someone who knows how to conduct an interview should be able to elicit your knowledge and love
of kiting. It will sound much better than something you tried to memorize. I have yet to see a kiter who could not rave on for hours about kiting
given a few good opening. Just talk with the interviewer as you would to any other interested bystander, you will do just fine.

is that Fox 101.1FM - they do have a "listen live" on the web site.
Now we have to see if there is a number to call in and ask dumb questions during the interview
