reverse hot launch from near the zenith

Does anybody use this technique? It gins up some huge power and really gets your motor runnin, your actually doing a half kiteloop dead in the power zone

Reverse hot launch certainly does deliver a power boost and is basically a half kite loop dead in the power zone but I'm not sure what you mean by from the zenith? Launch = kite on ground. Zenith = kite overhead.

What I mean is park the kite at about 80 degrees near the zenith, trim the brake lines and fly the kite straight down in reverse hard and fast to about 45 degrees and then steer hard right or left

If power is needed I'll loop it. But what you are describing is basically like sining the kite, except exaggerated.

do you do this static or on some sort of board?

what size / kind of kite and what kind of wind?

tbh it's a bit hard to visualize how this would be good for jumping, I prefer keeping my kites flying fast (fixed bridles)... almost the same only I fly it down while running away, turn it back up as I get yanked, redirect as needed... (pendulum jump kinda)

to answer your original question (assuming I understand you right):

not that I've heard of anyways.... :shocked2:

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...

also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

Are you saying to stall the kite until the angle between the kite, you, and the ground is 45 degrees and then power it up by steering it left or right?

^^^ that's what I'm understanding... :dunno: If so I reckon I'd get way more power by flying it down to 45 degrees and then turning it up while doing a pendulum jump and keeping the kite flying fast....

I have seen guys use a similar technique for jumping. Take kite to zenith ... then hit the brakes to stall it back into the power zone ... then release the brakes to shoot the kite back to zenith.

I don't recommend this method. i've just seen it done before.

Probably lots of outward pull, kinda like a kiteloop. You better get high so the float has time to kick in.

yeah... the only time I dip that low jumping static is in low winds / big kites trying like heck to get my feet off the ground... big winds / small kite I keep my skirt on...

Hey Guys,
Sorry my description of the technique wasn't very good, this is not used for jumping, it is only used for slingshot style starts on snow with skis and you do sort of stall the kite but just slightly so that the kite flys very fast in reverse, Ive tried it with my ckites and my depower foils and they don't fly fast enough in reverse to get the full effect, A four line foil on handles is the ticket for this move and you have to be able to fly a square pattern with two legs of the square flown forward and two legs flown in reverse. If you do this flying static be prepared for a huge scud!

Just found the post on reverse flying in this same thread on page 2, these guy's know exactly what I'm talking about, a fixed bridle foil on handles pretty much out performs any kite I own or have flown but I love anything that fly's and if possible I'd take one of everything.:smilegrin::smilegrin::smilegrin::smilegrin:

Now that I think on it, that is how I first got moving on my snowboard with my 4.8M NPW. I launched seated, took her to zenith, applied brakes 'til she backed down into the window and released the brakes, popped me right up the first time. Instant on power! (If I could only apply it better!)
