Buying just a safety system for control bar?

Hey I'm not very knowledgable about control bars,
Story:
I love my bar and its safety system.
You pull the red loop next to the chickenloop and the rope
detaches from the chickenloop and the kite depowers all the way. Here are a couple pictures of it.

Anyways today the red loop broke and I was wondering
if there was anything I can do/buy to fix it without having to
get a new bar. I would love it if there would be a way to replace it
with one of those plastic peices that you pull to release rope from the
chicken loop.(it seems like it's easier to attach after detaching it)
Here's what I mean. Something like this:

Is this possible?
... or should i just cave in and buy a new bar?
Thanks!

Airrush loop on a North bar. What part of the red loop broke? The elastic strip retaining the loop to the body of trhe chicken loop? The red handle itself?

Hey- thanks for the reply.
What ripped was the black piece that is attached to the red loop.
The black piece that contains velcro use to hold the loop better in place.

Is it just the velcro, which it's really that bad, or the cover? I'm of the opinion that the cover is not cosmetic and that you really want it to cover the connection. If it's just the velcro then you could just get some velcro from a home improvement or fabric store. If it's the cover you can just put a new one on. Still not sure what's really broken.

If you need to replace the loop, you can put just about any loop in there you want. You just run the center line thru the bar and tie it off at the depower strap. Or loop depending just replace the chicken loop. I personally like the big red flexi releases, but the new pin at loop style is getting a lot of attention. But the release you have does not break away from the loop it breaks at the line, so if you went with one of these newer styles then you'd want to clip that line you have connected to the brakes to quick release line that attaches to your harness. either way this is a good safety measure to have.

You could to an inline replacement with this style loop:

Here's the sexy new style of release, which you need another qr line for

the second safety line you'd need for this setup

A similar style of loop opened

Hope something there helps :Ange09:

I'm also having a hard time parsing your knot there. It looks backwards to me. Was trying to find a pic online of the right configuration but alas I haven't been able to scrape one.

Thanks a lot arkay, your post was very helpful.
I drew this to better show what ripped.
http://imgur.com/NmJFW.jpg
You stick the two pieces of velcro together around the rope
to better secure the pin in place.

Maybe I'm tying it wrong, but the releases that involve pins
seem a bit less predictable(it's come undone a couple of times
when I didnt want it to)so im thinking I would like to replace the
chicken loop for one of those newer models that clip and click in
(like the bottom 2 chickenloops your attached).

Is there a benefit to having the release break at the chickenloop rather than at the
line? Does the second chickenloop that you posted release the line or..?.. and
how exactly does the extra qr line work with that?

Any thoughts on this one?
http://www.liquidforcekites.com/control-systems-cpr.html
It seems to be the main idea of what I'm looking for as it seems like
you can just clip the line back into the loop.

Also are there any online stores or anywhere (in america) that I can buy chickenloops? It seems like most places don't carry them by themselves
(they are sold with the bar)?

Would getting a Cabrinha Chicken Loop with a Cabrinha depower mainline
work in my case? It seems like a simple replacement.
found here

Thanks again.

Ameriskate:

If you want to replace your entire chicken loop assembly with identical, you can get one from Airrush for $17 USD (no idea on shipping, though):

https://www.airushkiteboarding.com/product_info.php/cPath/29...

If you are handy, get a piece of replacement webbing and velcro at fabric store, some heavy thread, a seam ripper. Pick it out and sew on a new one by hand.

What kind of kite are you flying it with? Your 'safety' system looks like it just pulls both rear lines in a bit, much like kite killers on a fixed bridle. Not really appropo for a depower set-up, though it may work passably like the Ozone backstall type safety system used on their depower foils.

That airush replacement chicken loop sounds like the way to go - just got a bar from them. Paying $17 + $10 or so shipping for the piece of mind that comes with a new chicken loop rather than trying to make one or repair an older one is totally worth it.

Wow thanks for the link.
I didn't think it would be that cheap.
I might have just get a replacement just to be easy,
but I would prefer a different safety system.

I think I would prefer a system that
doesnt involve a pin that you stick in the rope, but rather
one of those systems with a red plastic peice
that you push or pull (like some of the links i posted earlier).
I'm under the impression that these are easier to attach and
a bit more secure compared to what Im using now.

The kite that's using the bar is a Blade 3 10.5m w/ depower mod that I bought used to use in low winds.
All the kites I've used before this were FB with handles which explains most of my confusion
when it comes to depower kites.

Thanks for all the replies.

Ameriskate -

How about some more info on the kite you are flying. Like I said before, the rear line setup on your current bar seems a bit iffy regarding safety. If you really want a new type chicken loop, I'd get a whole matched bar/depower/loop/leash setup and not bother doing anything more to your current setup.

The Airrush loop you have isn't bad - I have one myself. The stainles eight does a fine job of letting you spin the leash around when you un spin the bar, but it is designed to work with a front line swivel above the bar (like you have).

But sewing a new pieceo of velcro on your old loop isn't a major deal - it doesn't take the load, just secures the handle and pin until you need to pull it.
