In clean winds, do you feel that it is safe to jump overpowered if you have your redirects down? It seems like you would go high but the float would
still be there. By overpowered, I mean if you're flying a depower, all you have to do is pull the bar in and you'll go up at least three or four feet.
I know that jumping is never considered to be safe, but is this a real dumb idea or is it just a good way to get more air and hangtime on jumps?

today's overpowered jumping is tomorrow's powered jumping, and then later it's just nice and comfy jumping, and then you take it up a notch again...
no jumping is not safe, and it's scary to take it up a notch... i try to push it a little at a time... some sessions i don't push it, other sessions
the wind is making all the right moves and the beach is empty and it's time to take it up a notch.. The longer i fly the pickier i get about the
winds i push it in...
but if you're looking to push your comfort zone out a bit maybe it's time to start looking for good conditions....
just my 2 cnts...
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....
sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...
also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.
when i had my 5m ace i flew it in 25mph gusty and got some major awesome jumps. You just need to know where to keep the kite and use it to your
advantage. In those kinds of winds you keep the kite out of harms way until you are ready to jump, you can't let it sit anywhere that it will loft
you, or think about lofting you... cuz it will. i just kept it low and to the edge of the window until i wanted to jump and crept it up top, jumped,
redirected, and back to the same position

Na, I don't think so. Around here the winds are so bad that you just don't get float on jumps. I wouldn't want to push it past 5 feet because I know
I'd be coming down like a rock.

In general it is wrong to go out overpowered on land. There is always a chance for gusts. I don't do it but Rip' does all the time ! To truly be safe
you need to size for the gusts.
Rip' Has decades of experience. At the same time Furb' said it well. Todays overpowered is tommorows perfect wind as you progress.
Watched that video too many times. It seems like jumping overpowered would be safer than jumping underpowered- if you are trying to jump when there's
not enough wind to lift you, but you happened to get picked up by a gust, you'll go up just fine but you won't have sufficient wind to float you down.
On the contrary, if you jump overpowered and you get picked up by a gust, you may go much higher than you are used to or are comfortable with, but at
least the wind will be there to float you down if you get the redirect.
And maven, it was more like a thud

power you can't forget the forward movement. its a dynamic system. not just the true wind.
in lighter wind you realize the effect. in higher wind its still the same, JUST MORE.
redirects are actually less in higher winds and more so in lighter. high wind sessions are tedious sometimes, alot more to do with timing, control
and balance. and what to do with all the power. alot of thinking ahead. careful!
lol ohhhh man. When I first started I took my 13m guerilla out in winds 27mph gusting into the 30s. I had a few jumps that took me over the 25 foot
mark. It was scary as crap, but I had the biggest smile on my face. I compare every day to that session. I was way overpowered but i Had a friend
helping me out just in case. I made sure there was plenty of field downwind of me and I took it easy before I started in on the session. It was a
really good-bad idea. I was very naive back then, but somehow i got lucky and didn't get hurt.
Power, jumping with an arc has lots more float down that your 10m best. That was the exact kite I started with, and let me tell you that I gained so
much more confidence with my arcs than I ever did on my LEI's. I'd actually like to have another LEI just to learn with, but whatever.
On the flip side, jumping in those winds could've killed me. I wouldn't recomend it, unless you are as dumb as I was. If you are going to fly on
land and in gusty conditions use a kite that will better handle it (arcs!). there were a couple of times i should've been hurt but the autozenith
saved me.
I actually was flying over powered on atb and I did a powerslide that was like 35feet long and I stopped right in front of a 15foot little tree.
Unfortunatly a gust lofted me through the tree! Somehow I didn't get hurt and my kite autozenithed and gave me a chance to recover.
If you are going to decide to fly overpowered, be safe, wear protective gear, and fly with other people who could save you if your unconscious carcass
is being dragged around the field. Lol have fun in the air, but make sure the people in your community know you are trying to be safe so they don't
try and ban kiting.

I think we're talking about different things. I'm talking about the second redirect to provide float, not the first one to lift you.
dose not matter, all of it. first one , all the ones in between and the last. once the rig is lit and you start moving it requires less and less
input with more wind , but it still has to be there.
huge redirects(large bar movements ) in high winds will produce more radical accel. and very snatchy results. sometimes thats what you want. be
careful just like the kite will snatch you UP in the air, while up in the air with high wind and alot of elevation a strong redirect that's too much,
it will snatch you DOWN into the ground in the blink of an eye.
Funny hearing everyone talk about flying overpowered. I dont think most of you have even come close to being overpowered.
When your being dragged downwind and cant edge enuff to get the kite to the edge of the window thats overpowered. When your sucked into the downwind
death trap( kite pulled you downwind and you cant stop it so the kite makes more power which pulls you faster downwind which makes more
power...........till you pop the safety) thats overpowered. When you think you had a near death experence, thats overpowered.
You guys get a little bit lit and say your riding overpowered. You dont ride overpowered you survive being overpowered!

The trick is finding that balance.
i was going to add to this thread but this says it all.
personally i have my best sessions when im overpowered, but it all comes down to experiance.

You mean like being dragged 60ft uphill by a kite that's nose down on the ground?

being taken ...is lack off control or loss of control.
my best sessions are overpowered as well
my friend i am well versed in riding overowered on land and on water . at the limits of the gear and often far beyond.

i love being Over powered on the Ace 4.5 tbh (not a depower kite), although its hard to hold down on the handles (arms ache) Its great for lift if
youve got enough space. On the 4.5 Ace over powered, i can do 15 ft with ease. On my feet though, not good enough on the board yet
