Snow buggy video

Well, back to the drawing board on this one

Over a foot of snow yesterday left me wanting to try the snow buggy out badly. Son was flying a 4m Beamer with no luck since it was only blowing between 6 to 10 and I knew it was time to throw the 19m Venom in the air. Needless to say I made it around 100 feet before I broke the thing :wow:

@2:20 the break followed by dumping me out the side of the buggy.
@3:40 when my son picked up the front and receive a surprise from the weight of the snow :o He needs to be more protective of those things... he's The Last of the Mohicans :duh: End result is a tweaked section in the rear axle that I'll have to fix, and the culprit was the ski catching on the snow. I need to attach a piece of line to keep it from doing this again.

I'm not worried at all

Never thought getting up on a plane would be so important on snow! :o

That sucks.......easily fixable? Looks like it has loads of potential. If you wouldn't mind posting some detail pics of how it's all put together if you ever have a chance?

:thumbup:Nice vid Todd. All seemed to be going well until you got ejected. It did appear to be plowing alot of snow. Any thoughts on why it doesn't get up on top of the snow? Maybe just because it was fresh powder:dunno:. I'll have to post my experience when I get mine on next week. Hopefully it will go slightly smoother than your first run. Let us know how your second run goes after you repair it. Thanks for sharing your snow buggy experience:thumbup:.

Bungees on the ski tips might help you get up and riding without catching a tip. You might also need a wider ski for powder. The current ones look good for hard pack.

Great quality video. I agree with the wider ski for power. But I bet it rips on ice with a couple inches of snow.

@ Macboy- I think it will be an easy fix and I'll get back to the pictures when it's done. It's basically a stainless Peter Lynn buggy but a different setup for the rear axle.

@kteguru- Snow was too deep to even think about getting up on plane with me in it  My son maybe but me? :wow:

@frathouse- Yes this is the key to my failure, must put a bungee on those skis.

@power- Not enough room for the 24 to fly

@Rocfighter- Thanks! I can't wait to get this thing cooking!

@WeldnGod- Agreed! I'm looking into a set of snowmobile skis for the Libre.

@Houston Airhead- Indeed!

So... did anyone fall asleep to the music selection?

It does plow quite a bit of snow huh.. I think that's why the kite sled guys just made a sled. Little runners on the bottom to convince it to go a certain direction. That thing might be nice on a hard packed frozen lake. I think if I ever get around to making a snow vehicle it'll be a copy of the kite sled. Just seems like the best idea. That snow looked pretty dense too. Sticky! Thanks for sharing Todd.

Todd I give you a 8.5 on the dismount. Almost graceful!

As far as music selection, I think it is kind of fitting, right for the speed of the video!
Another hit! Love all your videos.

Hope you get it fixed soon for another go at it!

What about small kid sized snowboards rather than skis for a wider footprint?

That's a thought; I've searched high and low for skis anywhere from Toys R Us to Google throwing the towel in. I'm pretty sure that the snowmobile skis will work for the Libre and I'm more geared towards going for the ice instead of the powder. The Peter Lynn snow buggy should probably work with my son on it. Seeing that he is much lighter than I he shouldn't have a problem.

Don't know if Play-it-Again sports is nation wide or not, but they have stacks of used (some very used) boards. Could take a look and get sizes/prices, if you like.

There is also the Baltimore ski warehouse next to BWI airport (7038 Aviation Boulevard Glen Burnie, MD 21061 http://www.baltimoreski.com). All of their stuff is used equipment.

Thanks for the info guys; I think that if I could attach a skeg to a snow board that it could work. The skeg/blade would be a dual purpose for snow and Ice. They have some pretty cheap prices on that site; I might have to pick up a board for the boy so he can try it out.

The skeg should work, routing out a section of the snowboard and glueing in some 1/8th or 1/4 in square bar stock steel would work nice. Don't forget to wax the ski/board that will make a huge difference in getting the snow to release and start gliding
