There is really no beach to mountain board on. there are a few parks on the south side by poipu but really, stick to kite surfing. Anini beach, NW side of the island is amazing. There's a reef way out that breaks the waves on 1/2 the beach so on one side you have a few football fields on flat water and then keep going south and you have monster waves. Very, very cool. :bigok:

Was in Kauai last September. I had talked with locals before I went and landboarding is nonexistant. After checking out the island, I found very few places inland that you could ride and even then there was lots of trees and obstacles making for some lumpy wind. The beaches have alot of people on them going in and out of the water making it unsafe to ride. Also several of the beaches have coral sand which would be almost impossibe to ride on because you would bottom out sinking in. Lots of windsurfers at Anini Beach. Wailua would be prolly the best place to take lessons if you haven't kiteboarded on water. With lessons the instructors provide the gear and good safety for the area you would be boarding at. It can be frustrating if you set up lessons and the weather doesn't cooperate and you only have a few days. Also, you will be on Hawaiian Time which is very laid back. I have lived in Hawaii before and I believe Kauai is the best island to vacation but Maui is the Mecca of Kiteboarding. Hope this helps.

North shore of Awahu (spelling?) is a good place in the winter. Huge waves and good people. But you need to head up to the country on the north shore rd. As Lynx said very layed back and easy folks.

Thanks for the all of the info. i am staying on the east side of the island and am planning on taking my friends 14m slingshot fuel. i have several videos on kite surfing and am pretty decent at snow kiting. My plan is to buy a cheap used kite board and just go for it since i don't have much money to work with. I learn quickly and am a strong swimmer. still a little nervous about kite boarding on the ocean for the first time. if anyone has more advice or has an old kite board i could buy cheap i would greatly appreciate it. - Nate

As Tridude said Wailua Bay next to Kapaa would be your best bet on what you are planning to do. Good Luck Brah!!
