Official Pre-event News 2010

I'll be at Elmers on thursday the 25th of march right up until sometime either monday or tuesday morning day of event.

El Mirage is now a for pay recreation place which has brought peace and tranquility to an otherwise out of control situation.

Gear heads that pay are nicer, who knew!

El Mirage Info

There will be no trip to Superior this year. Relish the memories of that pristine place, and all the fun we had there, for it is now gone perhaps forever.

The un-official head of the pre event, Mr. Corey Jensen will post shortly on this thread about all the wonderful things we do at Elmers and why it is such a special place.

I can only nod my head and say amen, for such is our way. The past is dead, so we move now into the future while keeping a firm foot in the present.

Links to pictures from Superior are greatly appreciated as well as the re-telling of old stories.

Bummer.. Why is Superior out? Is it restrictions? I haven't been to Elmers in several years, but when I did go I was not impressed. Too many motor heads and lots of pot holes.

Hey Sailors,
I made the trek up to Superior (above Barstow) this weekend and I am saddened to report that Ft. Irwin has expanded their training area and fenced off all three Superior Dry Lakes.
I could get within about 1-2 miles of the playa, but that's it.
Big metal gate across the road and a razor wire fence with a security road around the

I am so glad we had such good times there, particularly the last couple of years.

Now it's back to Elmers and Walt's Cove. Back to the pucker bumps and exploring the desert trails.
Elmers has long been one of our favorite places to ride. The varied terrain brings an element to our riding not available in many places.

While Elmers has a smoother surface, more varied terrain, and better wind, I will miss Superior. Something about fueling up with gas, food, and water in Barstow to drive out at night into the desert along that dirt road, watching the glow of the gps, thinking of how much air dean will get in his rental car when he hits that rise, only to hit that rise too hard myself in my little hyundai...

Sadly we will say so long to Superior, many was the night, and many was the day.

Little Joe.

Perfect 50 cal. bullets.

Buggy pulls.

the insane rescue, with all the blue lights, helicopter, fire trucks, and one dying man, somehow rescued in the nick of time.

Late night around the fire, the stars down on the ground, or the military lighting up the night with flares and missiles or the sound of the lone sonic boom.

Of course, there was also the buggying. The trips to the other lakes. Everyone getting lost out in the woods.

The lone stranger one am in the dark, the middle of the lake no explanation.

Finding out that lights keep you from seeing and that no moon, and just star light work just fine, especially if you have a sense for the edge.

Will and Dave doing suicide gybes in the middle of the night using Slaweks truck to guide them.

Will and Dave having to much fun and sleeping on the floor.

Melting glass.

I sure hope someone sees this thread and has some pictures.

oh well, see you at Elmers Corey and Steve. George Brown will be there, as will Darrin Skinner, Will and Dave and Andy and Peter, and Mark and well, you just never know.
