Montana 4 12.5m (suk wind story)

This thing does not like gusty/crappy/shifty conditions...

took the new girl out on sunday... but i had winds constantly shifting directions, nasty, nasty gusts... the kite overflying the zenieth was a HUGE problem... ugh...

The wind speeds were gravy, then would pick up to pretty crazy, then die... I'd drive it right into the window, and the wind would shift dirtections, and the kite would luff... then bowtie... they do the possessed demon dance once it flew into the window

fought the kite for an hour, and packed it up... not worth the potential pain... you know me tho... always looking for the positive silver lining... got lofted on one such gust, went oh, 8ish feet up, and glided ever so slowly down to the ground... once i realised i wasnt gonna die, it was quite the enjoyable jump:rolleyes:

almost makes me look forward to the summer lulls...

::and my field was all sorts of muddy... so, yeah... yay laundry!

Mine doesn't do so bad in gusts. But I only have the sec gen to compare my 3 to. Not really accustomed to shifty winds though. That must be scary as hell in high winds.

the winds weren't really that high... if i could pick an average speed out of that mess, 13-15mph :dunno: ...its just if the kite is trimmed for a certain speed... it doesn't take a lot to grab ya... esp if you are trying to keep the power up... and the gust are jumpin and divin'
I've taken this kite out a couple times, and if the gusts aren't bad, the overfly inst bad... but man... Sunday was just not a good kiting day... i doubt my phanny would've been able to handle the chop... so i don't blame the Montana... i blame Nebraska :moon:

The winds were nuts, as far as direction change tho... out of the south west... to out of the east... i'd say a 100 degree change, was the worst i saw... and it was back and forth the whole time... we must have had a couple conflicting systems

Ive done quite a few of those jumps... on purpose... but most have been on handles, where i still have more experience... compared to depowers... or in light winds....
getting lofted... 2 ft or twenty, sucks... some more than others... but that feeling of no control sucks, no matter the situation

By any chance were you flying it static?? I had similar problems with the Montana's when I first started testing them out, once you get moving they really shine, but definitely take a little getting used to.

was trying to atb... but, the shifty winds werent doin me any favors... once i got rolling, i'd randomly lose my wind, or it'd change directions... just bad winds and i had to vent

Directional changes like that have to be the worst...I don't think I would have even flown in those type of conditions...be careful though...strong gusty winds with a high lift kite and captive system scare me!
