NasaWing praised by PL himself for lightwind!

http://www.peterlynnkites.com/news/0801news.htm

Quote:

It's true that kites are not equal- some are better in the light than others. The very best light wind fliers are NASA style single skin frameless kites- they fly in winds you can barely feel. When Chris Brent and I tested NASA's against Arcs using identical KiteCats in 2005, we found not only that the NASA's allowed kitesailing in much lighter winds, but that the performance crossover was at much higher wind speed than we expected. NASA's have L/D's of around 3, Arcs >5, but even when the wind was more than enough to allow the Arc to be parked solidly in a corner (+/-15km/hr), a NASA of similar size would still beat it around an upwind/downwind course. There is hope!

you can actually go upwind with a nasawing ?!? i want a video ! i want a nasawing! in ... hmmm... 19 sqm ! i will have big days in 4 knots :shocked2: :wee:

I think Peter needs a go on a Speed Silver Arrow . Could be a wake up call even for him ? :Ange09:
It's too bad Flysurfer doesn't send rep's to NABX !

Coolbreeze was out riding in so little wind that the flags were not lifting with the 11.? Vapor on snow the other weekend. I SWEAR the wind was between 3 and zero and he just kept going through the zeros ! :borg:

yeah! today, i was out with the peter lynn twister II 7.7 sqm in 2-4 knots , powerkiting on the beach. this beast has unbelievable power! scudding all over the beach, even some small jumps were possible.

i will upload a video next week. my internet connection in my hometown is so slow, that the upload always stops with some errors.

vapor or some other race kite is definitely on my wish-list. but also a cheap but HUGE nasawing for abusing and scudding and fun on the beach. next week also my steel bottom ski will arrive. hope they work on sand (and grass?).

thanks! especially the interesting would be ultra-low-wind, as this is the area where the nasawing is probably unbeatable, according to mr. lynn. (well maybe flysurfers are the best thing there, but they are out of the game , because they are simply to heavy ... ... (price-tag wise ;-) )

I would like to see if the Nasa wing can outperform the likes of the new Vapor ?

I know I saw AJ flying some HOOJ NPW in almost no wind last year but I have seen a vapor flown by Coolbreeze in pretty much no wind ?

probably the vapor is better. but: would you risk anything with your brandnew expensive vapor? i would rather go out on the sea with a 19 sqm nasawing and get beaten by minimal gusts, than risking to sink a vapor.

vapor would be fantastic though for the next snowkite session. i also heard that the vapor is the definite low wind kite. better than flysurfers of course, because of the better (no reflex) profile and optimized overall desing.

still would be interested in a nasawing hybrid with a self-inflating leading edge. just to stabilize it and reduce nose collapses. (and to make it swim ;-) )

the naiboo morphine has something similiar: just some cells that self-inflate so that it swims. but main stability comes from the aluminium spares leading edge.
