Kite Suggestions

With a new buggy in hand my wife and I are planning a trip to the beach to stretch it's legs. I current have a beamer 4m and am looking at buying only one more before our trip. I would like to take your suggestions on what the best second kite to buy is. I suspect that wind conditions (Corpus Christi) will be in the 15 to 25mph range. Specs are as follows:

Peter Lynn Buggy
Wife =130lbs---Slightly less proficient but scared of nothing....
Me=203lbs------Slightly more proficient but scared as hell.......seen more dead people than my wife......

I understand in a perfect world I would take about 5 kites but I am looking for some guidance on what would give me the most wind speed usability to compliment the 4m I already have. I don't mind having to go a bit slower as long as my wife gets to have fun without being overwhelmed.

My initial thoughts are a smaller kite, but I need some advise and am certainly open to the idea of a larger one if you all think it would be a better call.

P.S. We will both gear up correctly as we have plenty of dirt bike gear...I just don't want to get my wife in over her head....she isn't scared but I feel bad when she gets hurt.

A 2m Beamer, Ozone Flow, Peter Lynn Twister, Peter Lynn Hornet, any of these would be good choices. With your 4m, you have winds covered from about 5mph up to 20-25 max. If the winds get any higher than that you will need something smaller to be safe. On the coast you never know when the winds will change. I have a 5m Ozone Flow and usually have to put it away when the winds get up to 20-25 mph. So I think your best bet would be to go smaller, if you go bigger it is not likely to see much flying time.

2/2.5m for sure, that's a good ammount of wind. I'd stick with a low aspect ratio kite so that it won't be too powerful and you won't want a lifty kite either. I'd go beamer or rage. But even so getting close to 20 is a lot of wind.

also a 2.4 Libre Bora is ok as well, pulls much like a blade but sharper, easy to handle.

I'm fairly new to this sport too TxShooter too but here's my two cents worth all the same. I started with 3, 4 and 5 metre kites and it was the 2.0 metre Hornet that I added last that I felt really rounded things out as far as this newbie's kite kit goes. I really like having that smaller kite around when the winds start to blow a bit. I like to buggy but really don't like to buggy FAST. So as the guys have said here, it would probably make sense to add a smaller kite to your kit at this point rather than a larger one.

cheers,
Erin

Yep...definitely smaller in the winds you mentioned....2-2.5. In terms of kites, I like the Flexifoil Rage or Blurr , Ozone Flow, HQ Beamer or Peter Lynn Reactor 2.

Just know that the Reactor 2 and Blurr are a little higher performance kites but stable as well.

You'll definitely want a nice stable kite in those winds (> 20).

Have fun.

Yup, as everyone else has pretty much said, something in the 2m size would be perfect. This would be a great kite for your wife to buggy with and also for you to use when the winds start hitting towards that 20mph mark. For winds lower than that your 4m will cover. This would be a great 2 kite quiver for both you and your wife. As you already have the Beamer 4m, a Beamer 2 meter would be a great addition as they would both fly very similar and be very familiar with what you already have. The Hornet and the Flow would be another choice as well. I would probably stay away from the Twister II as it has a lot more lift in it and not usually the best choice for the buggy.

The jury has spoken. Thanks you guys. It is nice to know that I was on the right track with something smaller. I have been hearing alot of good stuff about the ozone flow and may give one a shot. I think it will be between the flow and beamer.

I love my 2m Flow. I find it's much more fun to fly than the Beamer.

PKD kites are awesome and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The Buster2 is a killer kite and a has a lot of features such as angle of attack adjusters. Their prices are also lower than Ozone and Flexifoil due to their higher cost structures.

I was almost talked into a Prism today.....has anyone had any experience with one??? Also working on a Hornet or beamer from Big Mike.....looks like I am going to be buying more than one. I guess that exceeds my kite budget and means my wife gets another purse or gun.....damn.

Tx...

I was going to buy a Beamer or a Hornet but was talked into a PL Viper. This kite is amazing! Quick little bugger but easy to control, fairly priced, and TONS of fun. Turns a but quicker than the others and I imagine its going to make a GREAT higher wind engine for my bug. Don;t overlook the Viper :)

Edit: I was told it flies like a "gnat on crack" in higher winds...more true words were never spoken :wee:
