No kiting for a while...

Well I've just made my college decision and I'll be going to Georgia Tech (studying Aerospace Engineering) for the next four years. It's a great school and I loved the campus and people there but there isn't exactly anywhere to kite in downtown Atlanta. Although I've only been kiting about 6 months, the prospect of not being able to seems crazy. So, I was wondering what I should do about kites.. I'll be in a dorm so there isn't exactly much room. Right now I'm thinking there isn't much harm in bringing the just the Ace because its rather small, just in case of a random trip to the beach or something.

Tell me what you think!

Bring both and the board man...there is ALWAYS a place to kite

Ive been on campus in a few places and there is always a field of some sort. Who knows...maybe you will get others interested and start a kite club @ school :yes::yes:

Besides, it's college, you can always find something stupid to do on a mountainboard :D. Or should that be someone stupid to do it...

Yea man, bring em or at least the kite. You'll find places to go use it. Couldn't think of a better way to release some stress, Hmmm, well there are a few things that come to mind.

You'll still be a couple hours away, but find a good field, and I'll make the trip!!!!

I would try to start a club but it seems like we would need a field somewhat close to do so. I don't think stone mountain park will work for flying. There is a park about a mile off campus but they dont allow boards

I'd definitely bring a kite, at least. Static flying will keep your kite skills sharp, and is great stress relief, IMHO. Piedmont park looks great, but is probably the one that doesn't allow boards:thumbdown:. I always wondered what the city guys do to get their fix. But hopefully the parks don't have regs against kites?

Def bring the kite.
Try the horse park out in Conyers. Parts of it were used as the mountain bike race venue during the '96 Olympics. Rode the trails a few years back and seem to remember there being a lot of open space.

Yes, Definitely bring 'em!!! 4 years is a long time! U'll still have some free time in there and you'll be kicking yourself if you don't bring 'em. Even just the ace would be fun. But IMHO once u got the ace out for awhile u'd be wishing you had your board ;)

yeah Piedmont parS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s website says basically nothing with wheels is allowed on the grass. I'm sure there is somewhere outside of Atlanta I can use, it's just a matter of bumming a ride out there. I suppose you are right forgiven, just the ace isn't nearly as fun as the board :D I suppose I'll bring it all. Hopefully I wont be too kite starved

Hey guys may I ask a bit of a stupid question.

Why has local authorities banned the use of landboards etc on sports fields and parks.

Over this side of the pond in NSW, at the moment there are covenants applied to sports fields in my area, but those are no golf, no horses, no RC planes, and nothing applied to kites.

And if others are about when buggying I give them heaps of space.

Experience is something you get, just after you need it!

At this park at least I think they just don't want stuff on their grass. The park I fly at has a no skateboard policy and I've been asked a few times if my board was considered a skateboard. I just tell them what it is and they don't bother me. But I also think some parks are afraid of people getting injured if boards are allowed. Kiting isn't big enough where I live for it to have specific bans but banning boards is enough of a bummer.

You will only be about 5 hours from Jekyll Island. It is kiting Mecca as far as beaches go. Angus might even give you a buggy lesson. Of course that would mean he would have to make the 15 minute drive to the beach. Bummer.

bottom line, at least take the Ace.
