Land Skiing?

So, I have been working on my own kite skates and a skateboard conversion into some sort of off road board, but now I'm thinking of a new project on top of these. I'm debating getting some old skis from goodwill or something and trying to make them into land skis. Has anyone tried this? It seems like the biggest problem will be overcoming the friction. Especially the initial friction of getting started.

My ideas that I have started formulating include fat skis (such as downhill skis), short fat skis (like the stunt skis or whatever they are called), doing some extreme waxing using my snowboard wax or my friends hot wax, and going up to Evergreen Air Field with a small shovel and turning the soil and mixing it up to make some sort of a nice dirt path (I feel like such a bad kid, wanting to tear up an empty field ;) ).

If you have any input then just let me know.

P.S. Although I would really love to turn some dirt at Evergreen, I know I shouldn't to avoid creating a bad image for us kiters.

i say go for it!! but dont destroy a field though....... if you do get something workable, i would strongly suggest combing over your field of choice...... me and jovver were buggying in a field i thought we knew and i went over a foot deep hole that was just as wide at 40-50 mph and i nearly ate it--i also noticed an off centered drain that stuck up about 6 inches through the grass--hitting that would have been suicide at those speeds--so check out your field thoroughly even if it seems tedious--might just save you a trip to the emergency room

I scan the field every time I'm there. Although the field is huge, I tend to stay within a certain boundary because I don't want to leave all my stuff alone too far away, don't want to come across anything dangerous that I wasn't looking for before, and because I like to be close to my water haha. I know that messing up the field (even though it's abandoned as far as I can tell) is a bad idea. If anyone knows anything about the field, who owns it, and wants to help me find out who I could talk to about possibly rototilling a small strip to "improve the soil" and such. I wouldn't want to do anything without the permission of the land owner.

At this point however, I am still brainstorming about what all I want the skis to look like, if I want to use skis or make my own, and if this will ever happen.

Also, I'm sure you will all be glad that I am the goofiest looking person on the field when I am testing my kite skates because of my wonderful snowboarding brain bucket. I have had 5 concussions from high school sports and getting another doesn't sound like a good idea to me haha.

I've been trying this on sand with a beater snowboard. I've learned these things:

1) Use graphite, not wax. The sand will stick to wax.
2) Start with very low winds. The foot position for the board makes me lean forward, not backward like a waterski, so it doesn't take much to pull me over.
3) Be a better snowboarder than me. Which really doesn't take much.

Tip #1 is new for me. I will keep that in mind. Low winds allow me to worry less which certainly makes it more fun :) and as far as tip #3, I love snowboarding! If only I could find a snow kiting area around here. Darn mountains rather than high elevation plateaus ;)
