one of my college buddies built a tesla coil--the toroid electrode was about 3 times the size of the one in your vid--and the bolts would shoot out for 10 feet easy--i had to tutor this guy in math--electronics--english--you name it, but when it came to building electronic stuff,he was pure genius!! i never knew anyone that could make electronic things on a whim and they would be fully functional first time with no glitches--ever!! one time i asked him to make me something to jam the stations on the tv set so i could screw with the family--5 minutes later he solders out this wee tiny circuit and it worked as advertised--family couldnt figure out why tv wouldnt work hahaha ps.- he also showed me how to make a jacobs ladder

While we're on the subject of TV gags ... back in the days before digital and cable/satellite TV, my mad mate Dodgy Ed had an thing that you plugged into your VCR and then it'd transmit like a TV station so you could watch it on any TV in your house ... he used to have great fun loading up a pr0n on the video then setting the transmitter to cover the NZ TV stations - the poor lady next door couldn't figure out why the 6 o'clock news suddenly got a whole lot steamier
